Building The Falcon NAV chair

Sofa king - Acme rubber in AZ has the correct half round rubber tubes. They are 1" in width.

I'm pretty certain the edges of the chair are wrapped in tubes that are perhaps 1 1/4". Trying to figure that out so I can order some.

That's a great piece of kit. I've got a
Mk4-P headbox from a Provost and was wondering how it sizes up with this type, is it a similar height at the back and if the front slot is essentially the same part?

Please share a picture. Pretty sure that's the seat I got first and unfortunately they are very different. The head box is considerably larger.

Hi Stormy. Yea I think you had one way back. Next to the type you have here, my fav seat is the Mk4-P but I've not got around to comparing the two for differences as yet (from a RAF / geek collecting point of view).

Here's a pic.

Thanks Wavey -

Sorry for the bad news, but other than resembling each other they are very different. As I said the reason I know is I have both $$$.

I originally thought they were only slightly different and was going to "make it work". Unfortunately the MK4 is bigger and the curve is completely different. Very frustrating. I actually hacked mine up and the. Had it rewelded to try to get the curve right.

Cheers Stormy, and yup loads different in the headbox department there. The Provost box is fairly common, if you wanted to replace it at some point.

Great to see this seat stripped back to its base parts, I don't think I've seen that done outside of the SW Universe.

Small update.

If anyone has suggestions on attaching the wooden arm rests to the aluminum chair I'm open.

Ordering rivets from McMaster and plan on rivets and perhaps Liquid Nails. Frankly there isn't much surface area to work with. Unfortunately there isnt really a good way to bolt them on as there is no access to both sides.

I'm looking at some pics and thinking that the whole 'L-shape' arm rest and back bar (one for each side) is attached to the seat's spine, rather than the seat itself. The prop maker had a good old go at adding stuff to them as there's a large bolt holding the seat belts in place. I'll have a look at some screencaps see if there's anything else going on there.

Hey S,

I just called them and they said they do NOT have the rubber in question. Do you have a name and or a part number I can use?

Update:

Built the arm rest and almost done attaching them. Used two large rivets, screws in the original holes and JB Weld. Hopefully they will be strong enough. I think this will be the hardest part of the build.

Pretty sure I have them in the right spot as the chair has so many rivets that I could match them with screenshots / photos and I should be spot on.

The arm rest will be covered in half round tubes and will be larger.
