Building The Death Star - PRODUCTION

Welcome to the thread! You are of a small number of members who have made their first posts on this nightmare thread of mine, and I'm humbly honored.

Yes - astigmatism and keratoconus...

When the glasses are properly worn, the "lean" is lessened, and normalized (if that makes sense), but I can't help but to think that it contributes to the illusion that the lines were leaning.

And as I'd mentioned earlier, with my contacts in, they look much better.

Good thing I only work on the beast when wearing the contacts! :)

Dude, are those readers from CVS? BTW what the hell are you doing up at this ungodly hour? Im In HK so I have an excuse. (the free booze lounge is still open) Looking awesome. Wish I was home, I would drop off some Krispy Creme and java.

Start in at 5A. But that puts me home by 3P, so leaves plenty of time to work on silly toys in the garage!

I'll finish out the lines on this redo section later today, and hopefully another small section or two on the next row up. Will post more comprehensive shots later.

Where can I find a free-booze lounge around here!? :)

Dude, are those readers from CVS?

They're my regular glasses...

Funny thing too about them - while the left lens refracts light to create a right lean, the right lens creates a left lean.

You'd think they'd compensate. Maybe under normal circumstances they do.

But I am totally left-eye dominant. My right eye is worse than if you'd open your eyes under water. And the glasses do not correct.

So the only correction I'm getting is the left lens. The one that creates the right lean.

Based on the zero correction of the right lens and severe lack of acuity, if there IS compensation from both lenses, I ain't gettin' any from the right lens. Leaving only a left lens creating a right-wise lean.

Or all this arm-chair optometry could be a bunch of hoo-haw bull****.

Who'd have thought that by page 202, we'd be talking optometry!?

How far did you get into the process before you needed those glasses? :confused
This is yet another example from this boards members, IMHO, that is going to be better than the original, yet still be as accurate as one can be to the prop. Looks great, love the speckle effect.
If you back up,how far does one need to go before it is mistaken for a moon?

:lol Yeah - it gets excrutiating at times!

Thanks for the compliments! From about 3-5 feet away, it looks like - well - the Death Star !the real deal, that is).

OK here's the redone section. Don't ANYbody dare say the lines lean!

Notice it looks different - more involved (more accurate).

So...

During breakfast the other day, I sort of tuned out a bit, and before I knew it, half my face was sunburned, and this was on my breakfast plate:

It's funny. Every time you look at your model and you want to fix something that to us doesn't 'need' fixing because to us it looks right on, you go ahead and fix it anyway and sure enough, it becomes even more amazing.

Whew, how's that for a run-on sentence?

Its funny you say that, D, because just yesterday I fixed one of the long silver strips in the upper section that was WAY off. To your point, I hadn't really noticed it until working on that section, and now that it is corrected, it looks a lot better.

I wonder if EVERYTHING was mathematically perfect, if it would look odd, you know - like a symmetrical Vader helmet does...

Yeah, that Vader helmet looks so wrong, then again, HC seemed to suck the charisma out of most things Anakin...
