Building the 8' Star Destroyer (superstructures done)

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

This is nothing but Modelers Porn, :) Julien you should be ashamed of posting such disgustingly good work. How can anyone hope to build anything that looks half as good. Speaking only about myself of course, ;) Love this thread, keep em comin'. No pun intended, LOL

Julien, thats a great find, and a great save.....or, great "shave" should i say :lol.

As for primer, ive noticed a couple of brands i used changed hue on me, going for a darker tone of late, and its not as nice, wonder if there are a number of them changing formula's on us......its a conspiracy lol.

Thanks Joe !

I think it's looking so good because the original is just awesome ! It's easy to come up with a great looking model when you're replicating this piece of History ! When you replicating it you realize they havent put the kitparts randomly, that's a very clever job (of course some parts were just here to fill a gap ! :lol).

I really want this build to be a tribute to the ILM team who worked on those (and this one in particular) models !

And I'm glad to see there are lately always more people recrating those awesome models... Rob's DS, Eric's sandcrawler, Lee's and Guy's PD, Phil's Falcon... etc there're too many to count ! All the are a great tribute of the guys who worked on the best FX models (I'm including the guys who worked on the Galactica models). Don't get me wrong I like what the CG guys are doing today, but TBH that will never bit the physical models !

Thanks Lee !

Yeah I was a bit nervous about the surgery lol But I couldnt have passed on this !

Yeah the hue is different, the Tamiya one is a bit lighter, it's also a bit thicker and shiny. I think you're right that's because of the new laws about chemical formulas... We'll have to live with that now lol

Julien,
I just love checking back to see what you've achieved with this build. BEAUTIFUL work.

You sir, are a master craftsman!

Your work blows me away, I don't log in here often, but when I do, I look for this thread. Your dedication, and attention to detail is mind blowing. I may need to take my girl to France under the auspice of a "romantic vacation", but then come to your house to see the wine cellar.

Hello!
I'm new to this club, having just recently discovered it, while doing research on the Avenger.

First, let me say that like your other viewers, I'm blown away with the work you are doing to so accurately recreate the 8 ft Avenger. I've been checking your thread daily since I discovered it a week ago.

I also read your other thread "Star Destroyer Avenger part ID help please", and I see you've posted number of photos with some of the parts labeled.

My question is, are you planning to post some current photos of the completed sections with all of the parts labeled?

Again, thanks for the wonderful thread!!!

No sorry...

I've been away from modelling for a while now (wedding, my job and 2 baby cats :)) but I finally managed to allow me to find one whole day to work a bit on the Star Destroyer.

No major update though, I reworked one area of the superstructures :

Then I finished the roof... (scribbing, styrene squares and I added some more structures inside the model to avoid any sagging, unlike the original model).

Julien, c'est très cool.

Looks like the honeymoon is over. ;)

Welcome back.

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

:thumbsup The cleanest build ever seen. I am most impressed with the precision you show working with the plexiglass. The detailing is superb as well - at the top of my all-time list of favorite builds (y)thumbsup

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

Thank you guys !! :)

Rick, I should admit following your build gave me a kick in the butt lol

Lasse, I think your work with plexiglass is better than mine !

Merci Kevin ;)

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

oh my, that's beautiful Julien..... I think I'm getting the "ISD Bug" again.

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

Thanks Jay !

Yeah I was thinking about that the other, that's a long time we havent seen any update of your ISD !

I finished this side of the superstructures today (and rebuilt a whole part of the front superstructures, but not pic since the difference is barely visible).
