Building the 8' Star Destroyer (superstructures done)

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

My goal for this month is to finish the non-hero side and getting the whole superstructures primed....
Now I have to find someone here (in France) who can cut for me the large plywood ribs of the hull frame. I cant do it myself. :(

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

Julien, I can't wait until the first day that you attach the superstructure to the hull, even if it's just a test fit. You're gonna need a bigger camera! ;)

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

Hehe can't wait either Kevin ! :D

I hope the superstructures will fit the hull angle ! :lol It should, but we never know... I'm not too worried though as the fit is not very good on the original and there's a gap between the hull and superstructures. :p

Fortunatly, I have more room in my new shop now so I'll be able to be far enough from the model to get the whole thing in one pic ! :$

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

I've started working on the non hero-side :

But while I was detailling it, I found a part I was looking for a long time which goes on the hero side, so I finished to add the last few bits but one part I havent found yet :

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

This is looking amazing.... well it was looking amazing a number of pages back, but it your build just keeps getting better with each update.

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

This build is truly impressive. Great job!

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

I always anticipate updates with this outstanding build. Julien, I asked before but I don't remember seeing an answer: what is the weight of the ship at this point and do you have an estimate what the final weight will be? Just curious.

Just incredible J, it's just amazing that your'e actually going to finish this beauty, your dedication to this build is just awe-inspiring mate!. :eek

Love those brim trenches, fantastic work Julien. Still cant fathom how big this build will be, we all know her length etc etc, but just the sheer mass and floorspace she will take up.....mind blowing :thumbsup

I dont know, I'll try to get it as light as I can... Right now the bridge+superstructures weight 10Kg (that's about 20lbs, right ?).

Can't wait to see how it will be ! The more I look at the pic of the original with the builders the more I think it's not that big finally... I think I'll be very surprised and find it huuuuuge when I'll have to scribe all those panel lines and glue those styrene chips !

I was so worried when I move it to my new house (just 40 km :lol), and that was not even the whole thing, I dont think it'll be touring worldwide lol :lol

Yup. Multiply by about 2.1 and round up. So 20, 21 pounds, something like that.

Truly outstanding build, Julien. Can't wait to see her finished. What's her name - is she the Avenger? Or are you going to come up with your own custom name?

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

Julien, you are truly a master of your trade. You do all the ILM modelmakers proud with this piece. Refresh my memory please, were you going to light the Destroyer with fiber optics as well?

Now that's interesting... Of course she's the Avenger (and I like this name), but I could end up with another name ! Why not ?! That's an interesting idea !

Thank you very much ! :$ Yes, I already put the FO in the bridge and have started to drill the holes on the front of the superstructures and on the hero side ! :) Very time consuming... I gonna use warm white LED's though !

i'll pay money to see this!

or if it goes on display, i'll make this a travel destination :)

Uncle Lucas wont be happy if people pay to see the model ! :lol

You're welcome if you're going to France to visit me though ! :)

The tan disk if from the Bandai Schwimm.

I was missing the details on the top of the back of the neck, I scratched them but wasnt totally happy with them. Then our very BlackPig found THE part. After some reflexion,I thought I was ready to do the modifications... Of course you're always a bit nervous when you're trying to remove parts/assemblies off something like the ISD.

That's how it looked :

Started to shave all the details :

And now the awesome find of BlackPig... The barrels of the Nelson/Rodney still attached to the sprue ! Of course the sprue itself needs to be sliced in half... without breacking any of the barrel part ! Hehe, now that's some kind of sport :)

New turrets were added as I destroyed the old one when I removed them.

Masking :

And primered, of course, even if that's the same brand of primer, it's not exactly the same color... maybe because the neck was primered one year and a half ago too :
