BSG - If you can't buy it, make it!

I'm in the process of repainting my TA-954 phone. I'm in a quandary as I wanted to make it accurate, but look as it does in the pics I've seen--and the pics seem to indicate that it's olive drab. An auction for the real thing says it's navy blue.

Hmm. I went to a local auto parts store and bought two cans of Dupli-Color. One, for the base coat, says it's "light charcoal," but the cap looks like unfinished aluminum. (The paint looks great on the piece, though--just like cast aluminum to my eye.) The other can says its "dark blue," but it's so dark it looks black. The only way I could tell it's really blue is to look at the cap by the hole where you insert the screwdriver to open it. That thinner piece of plastic does look more blue than black.

So, what paint(s) are the re-creators of this phone on the board using?

Here's a set of popular drinking glasses featured through the show. Specifically, they're what Adama uses in his quarters through the majority of the series.

They're Bodum Pavina Double-Wall Thermo Glasses. I'd say they are 9oz.

As brittle as the reviews say they are I'm surprised they didn't break on set all the time. Though they may have and they just bought more.

I have made a few of them ,and i am also looking for more TA 954's if anyone wants to part with one. I first paint the phone Painters choice aluminum and let dry ( that paint is the fracking best ***** out there) Then i spray dark blue paint and black spray paint at the same time, yup i said it, one in each hand. till it looks like a grayish navy blue. I just finished one today and will snap a few pics later.

Wow--I'll bet that takes some steady hands (and a breather mask to boot...)!

You'll get a better price on Ebay if you can catch on one there most likely, but if you google/yahoo Fair Radio Sales Company I'm sure you'll find the TA-1's and TA-954's are available. I got 2 TA-1's from them and a 954, all 3 were in pretty good shape as far as outside looking condition. I haven't tried hooking the 1's together to see if they'll work however since I have other verified working ones that I'll be using for a house to garage intercom :)

Thanks for the painting tips, MM! (y)thumbsup

Looking forward to your posts in the JY soon!

Very Nice, Moff Man!

The screen used box I got actually was full of various random tools. Wrenches, pliers, metal files, wire cutters, wire, wire strippers, utility knives, and even a working powered screwdriver.

I need more pieces like your raptor diagnostic module to go with it and the mobile computer I got.

I love the styling of the hangar deck props, and your pieces look perfect!

Heads up! Over at this place, they've got the Gaius Baltar flip calculator he used in the mini-series scattered throughout the search page (and at various prices) and they got a sliding one that turned up in the auction (but I don't know what episode it turned up in. Most likely a background piece somewhere). Figured I'd give a heads up from RIS BSG fan to another. :D

BTW, I think they also have the blue Gaeta PDA on there as well. I'll have to look for it.

Update: I've just checked it, but I don't see it (I could have sworn it was there). But I think it's another calculator.

Foud the Boker knife that Cain used in "Razor" and went to work with a dremel.
Here's mine:

And one of the original props (the handle crack varies depending on which one you look at):

And did anyone ever ID the gym bags they used?
