BSG flightsuit questions

Hey there. I have had an interest in my contacts in the Philippines making some BSG flight suits from the new series. But the shiny material I need to know exactly what it is. I have heard Incandescent Vinyl with shiny doohikies :eek But it appears to be a pvc fabric of some kind. But if someone can clue me in on this and also get me some really good measurements and pics of this suit. My wife in the Philippines will try to get a batch ran for anyone that wants to buy one. and it will also be made to your size.

Thanks

There's a thread here that you might find really helpful in your endeavor: New Battlestar Galactica Colonial Gear.

The material is apparently a discontinued product:
Sommers Plastics Products
Type: High Intensity Chroma Satin Stretch
Color: Gold/ Silver, W/ Green/ Purple
ID# B080502 (HICSS Chrome)[/b]
(courtesy of user division 6 in the afformentioned link)

Apparently the material sells for about $40 a yard and needs to be bought in bulk. There's currently a group-order happening here.

Good luck.

Cool Thanks alot on the help there. that will help alot

basically it takes an incredible amount of fabric yardage for the maker of the fabric to make the fabric and then sell it. (300 yards?)

There is someone who has done past business with Sommers and is able to get them to agree to sell a roll of 180 yards.

The green flight suit isn't the problem, as it averages 5 yards needed per suit, but the "gold" textured material that makes up the back scales is sold at the same 180 yardage and its been guesstimated that 1 suit would need 2-3 yards. So as it stands the gold appears to be harder to get the yardage needed since you don't need as much, and at $44.00 a yard its abit spendy.

yeah $8000 for some fabric is crazy. The funny thing is that I know my kid had a backpack or shoes or something made out of that same type of material. It looks so familiar when you see it up close. Also this is like anything else. if one company makes it does others? I know that might not be 100% Canon but if its the same fabric and same color would that matter? Does anyone have a swatch of the fabric that I could get my hands on? Then I can have my wife go to the part of town that makes so many clothes and I bet they could find it or get it from China or India. It appears to be a PVC type of fabric.

I see you to have some concerns.

The Boot Thread raised an eyebrow but this thread makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

Contacts in the Phillippines? Reminds me of Star Fortress Productions.

Ever hear of The Thomas Ernie Scheuer Information Clearinghouse?

well i have no idea who that guy is but I dont care to be compared to a child porn guy. I think that everyone of those guys should be fileted alive and boiled in oil. as for me you can ask anyone on thedented helmet or the 501st guys in MO about me and my ebay stats should also say something as jeepmanjeep and my wife and I would only use repuatable people to make anything or family. Im just a simple man trying to make my way in the galaxy. trying to provide an easy way for those less fortunate to get into the costuming world also..

Ladies and Gentlemen, I can vouch for Soilman. I have met him, and I can assure you, he is not Thomas.

I am APPAULED by the accusastions quickly thrown around just because he mentioned the Phillippines.

I mean, if you want to jump on all of the Phillippines I don't see why we havent banned MLC from this board....he's in teh Phillippines...

and why haven't we? BECAUSE He is an UPSTANDING member, and a great person in General who is very talented.

Libel, slander, whatever you want to call it. I can't believe the notion of people picking up rocks so quickly...

No one has accused anyone af anything. Reread the thread.

However, if someone (particularly an RPF member) is dealing with a costume/prop vendor in the Philippines, they need to know who NOT to buy from.

Thanks for clearing that up soilman.

Thomas has used numerous front-men, some who did not know of his reputation, to sell his wares.

thats ok But thats not me in any way shape or form. I love the Philippines and know that there is so much good there but as with any place there is evil like him.

And if I see that I will expose it to the light where ever I find it.

the crazy guy who is putting all these yards on his credit card is me. If you want the fabric sign up.

We already have two people looking to make the alternate fabric, one in Taiwan and another here. You might keep a close eye on the ASAP, that's where all the newest developments come from. We would love to have you join our forum and get your order in. We are going to need all the help we could get. Sommers keeps raising their damn prices and I feel this is the last run I will ever do with them. I don't agree with their business ethic at all anymore.

Also, you have seen shoes from them because they have their materials in shoes in the past. They had a puma line and I believe will still be with future shoe lines.

Regardless, I blab on. Just join up, we need as many people to sign on as possible.

I have a few yards of the fabric from the first run, and I can tell you, it's the real deal. This may be the last chance EVER to get any.
