Brian's Pred Suit... Updated Fanboy Expo Pics On Last Page.

Loving the upgrades Brian..the never ending story..lol. I am really excited for you and your son's first convention, something you'se both will remember forever.

Sean

Thanks Sean, we're both excited and a little anxious.  Judging by the competition last year, I would say that we both stand a pretty good chance.  I'm especially pleased with the way Connor's costume came out.  After the con, I'm gonna make a few changes to the Jawa and see if I can't get him into the 501st Vader's Fist.  I have a few people helping out, and have purchased a new 16 MP camera for the event, so I'm hoping for a bunch of pics.

Cool, thanks. You might as well hit up some contests now and when Halloween comes. These predator suits have so much detail and time put into them we deserve to get a few bucks back from prize money. ;)    I'm over half way done, no turning back now.  Some days it's hard to stay motivated, working full time and wanting to just be lazy.  But, I'm starting to see the finish line.

Good Luck, Brian!

Started animating my bomb gauntlet a while back and finally got the chance to finish it up.  I't's certainly not as good as some of the others here, but will do for now.  I used an arduino nano, and am planning to re-write the code today to get it to do more and look a little better.  I think I'm going to diffuse the lenses to make for more of a glowing effect, and then finish touching up paint and blending in the switch.

Thanks Lee, and you are absolutely right.  It's all the creativity here that keeps me motivated and want to try new things.

Wow very nice work.
Thank you.  There's better out there, but considering the time and $$$ I have in it, I'm very pleased!

Hey Brian, this is fantastic. You just put some new ideas in my tiny walnut sized brain. Very well done. Now I just need to google arduino nano and see what the heck that is. Ha.

Thanks Jeff, glad I could give you some ideas!  You'll love the nano.  It's super small, has all the same functionality as an arduino uno, and is pretty easy to program (trust me, I am no good at programming, so if I can do it anyone can).  There's already a ton of code written and readily available. so all I did was find something close, and modify it to do what I wanted.  Best part of all is the price... you can pick em' up for under $20.00.

Brian

Dude you think your no good at programming I have never even thought about it. I guess one of these days I will need to look into it.

Attended my first convention last weekend in the suit, and I'm still amazed at the attention it got!  It probably took me 20 minutes to even get in the front door due to all the people that wanted pics.  Seems like I would take 2 steps before I felt my wife tugging on my arm, getting my attention to stop for pics.  I spent about 5 hours suited up, which is probably an hour longer than I would have liked, but the costume contest ended up being delayed and i surely wasn't going to miss that.  After all was said and done, I ended up winning first place in the SciFi category, and second best in show.  Normally, I would be upset for 2nd place, but I lost to my son (he's the Jawa in the pic below, he won us 2 free VIP passes for next year), so I was just fine with it.  I owe a big thanks to my wife, who ran support not only for me, but my son as well.  This never would have been possible without her. She was the one to help with crowd control, get us water, and help keep the costumes looking good.  I have to say, I'm hooked!  We've been spending the last week planning trips to different conventions around the area, and planning for next year.  By the time all was said and done, I came home exhausted (spent 2 days recovering) but extremely humbled by the reactions from all the "fans".  There was even talk of my attending next year as a "guest", and to help judge the costume contest.  I think that's their way of trying to keep me from competing next year lol.  Wish I could see all the pics that others took of me, but I did get a few.  Thanks for checking it out!

Brian, this is awesome! Man! Thanks for sharing these pics. It is so great to hear and see some of your experiences at the con. I particularly like the last photo...are you a 'redhead' too? You are seriously making me wish I could have been there. Looking forward to more like this. Good Job my friend.

Yeah Steve, I'm a red head too lol.  Short, red haired, and Irish...what do you think they call me around here???  Thanks for the kind words!

Brian

How about 'Wonky"?

You literally look like you could be my brother...I had fire red hair as a kid and it is mostly turning brown to grey now it it is not turning loose...Ha!

Amazing!

Steve

My hair is slowly making a retreat, as well as turning white.  Still, for 44 years old, it's pretty red! lol

Brian

Agreed. Mine was not that red though when I was 44....some 6 years ago now. So I take it they call you 'Red' around those parts...and for a good reason. :D

I still keep looking back and admiring the pictures of your suit. It really turned out very well.
