Boromir, Full Costume Build (Pic Heavy)

Looks fantastic, and so glad you had such a great time!! Thanks for bringing us along with you on this costume building. :)

That turned out even better than I imagined!! I wish I coulda been in Melbourne to see it! Well done mate! Especially love the image of you blowing the horn!

As I said, there's still a bit for me to go on this costume so time for some more updates!

So this past week I've been working on my Bracers of Gondor and here's how I've gone about doing them:

After drawing up a template in illustrator, tracing photos of the screen used pair I then cut out my pieces of leather, then transeferred the design to be tooled onto the leather with a pencil. I then did the grooves along the edge and marked the stitching placement with an overstitch wheel:

Then I punched the holes in for stitching and then begun tooling the design into the leather pieces:

Then, once that was all done I was up to the fun part, dying the leather :) :

I also gave them a light coat of antique finish to age them a little then added the silver detailing:

I then spent my weekend hand sewing the the two layers together on each bracer with some waxed thread, my least favorite part so far >.<:

So apart from sore hands from sewing these together I'm really happy with how these are turning out, especially since it's my first attempt at hand tooling and sewing leather.

Now I have to get the straps made, dyed, and sewn before moving onto the under bracers so I can get them finished for a photoshoot this weekend.

I don't know when this build will actually end but until it does I'll keep posting updates :p

Been following this for a while now. I gotta say your work is amazing! The level of detail is intriguing. First time leather work? :thumbsup

:eek First time??? I'd say your work is incredible for your first time!

I have a friend who has done some leatherworking of his own, and he showed me a piece he did, a simple neckpiece. However, it was basically rock solid, which is something I wasn't aware you could do. He said it was a very common thing to do back when leather was actually used for armor: apparently you treat it with some kind of wax, and it makes the leather really really hard. Have you thought about doing something like this? Maybe not for this piece, but for others?

I recently caught the FOTR in concert with live orchestra by the Adelaide Symphony, and I was 2 rows from the front. Great vantage, and everytime Boromir came on screen, I was checking out his costume and checking it off against yours! Amazing work mate!! Sooooo close in accuracy and detail!

I'm really enjoying leatherwork so I hope to do lots more in the future and hopefully that will include some hardened leather armour of some kind eventually :)

I saw the Melbourne show, it was so awesome, I can't wait for the Two Towers one! :D

OK, so in a mad rush to get the Bracers done for the photoshoot this past Saturday I didn't get any more progress photos but here they are finished:

Now I can take a short break on this build while I head over to New Zealand next week for the Hobbit World Premier! I'll be taking this over and hopefully getting some good photos at some locations. I can't wait!

Once I get back it's onto the Shield and the velvet fur cloak :D

Also, as I mentioned before, I had a photoshoot in a studio over the weekend so I'll have some nice professional photos to show off once I get them from the photographer. I'm really looking forward to seeing how they turn out. The one i've seen so far looked awesome!

Wow, this is fantastic. Great job! I've been working on some other LotR costumes, but have always wanted a Boromir one.

I love LOTR and fantasy clothing in general and I love seeing builds like this because you get to see each aspect of the outfit coming together. Very inspiring work. I can't wait to see the rest of it too.
