Borderlands 2 Maliwan Hellfire build

I remember seeing this thread way back when it first started, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that it is still in progress. The body of the gun is looking slick, and I hope your own workspace is coming along nicely. I've always liked the organic look of Maliwan arms, so I'll be awaiting the time when you decide to update!

Kopesh I actually finished constructing my workspace 2 days ago; I've just gotta furnish it and sort out a workbench so I can bolt down tools and sort out a vise. Not long now 'til I can start pumping out props!

ONE EVEN MORE RIDICULOUSLY OVERDUE UPDATE:

"Well, hang me upside down from a telephone pole, cover me in honey, and leave me to a slow death at the hands of hungry spiderants" -- this thread ain't dead yet! My last update was Nov 14 (9 months ago!) but then again, this thread has been on/off (mostly off) for 20 months; this thing could of been finished easily a dozen times over. Over this summer term, I have been a very busy bunny, making a lot of props and working at my job like crazy and only now have I got the time to start uploading stuff.

I thought this poor, poor prop alongside my other projects needed to be finished for good so I have finally given this gun its paint scheme.

The way I did this was by throwing on paint and taping over it, instead of masking the area and painting over. I started with yellow, then white, then black and lastly, blue.

Once all the major base colours were down, it was a matter of masking small areas or free-handing with acrylic paints, such as the trigger. During this process, I also touched up areas and continued to do so throughout the process. (Apologies for lack of photos)

When I got every bit of colour on to the gun, I gave the gun some black washes and began the first half of cel-shading, using a fine black water based paint marker.

I'm really surprised with how well the cel-shading visually changes the entire gun and there is a lot more cel-shading and shadings of colour left to do, not to mention I still need to make the barrel/rail section but for now, that's all I have.

I was just thinking about your work and what the heck happened to you, the other day... Welcome back, again.

Thanks man, good to be back.

Small update: I got around to adding a lot more cel-shading than the first pass I did. I used references from the weapon viewer and my own imagination to add my own areas of cel-shading.

My approach for the prop was to completely over exaggerate the cel-shade appearance to clearly show that it's supposed to look basic and bold, instead of realistic and futuristic. There's only a few minor touches that need adding to complete it then there's only the barrel/rail left.

Until then...
