Bob the Alien (Giger inspired Alien)

It has been a while $

Thanks for the kind words guy's :)

I've been very busy with other things lately, I have been working on Bob in between times though.
I've been working on texturing him but I've only had an hour here n there & there's quite a lot to do, I'm about half way through at the moment. When the texturing's done I'll give him a coat of paint & get some pic's up against a white back ground :)

Thanks for the bump man :)

Thank you. I just spent my NYE reading this entire tread. Wasn't the plan, but the tenacity with which you attacked the sculpt is so impressive.
Just fascinating.

Did you read the thread? If I sound annoyed its because people ask questions already asked several times and covered several times in the thread and it shows in my inbox as a reply and I pop back here looking for an update only to find its nothing more then the same question covered several times over. Half of this thread is about him doing castings.

why so serious:popcorn

OK :) Time for an update:

All the sculpting is finished :D no more modifications, no more changing anything or reshaping, he's finished!

Here's some pic's:

I guess the next step will be creating the moulds for him.

What do you think?

That is AMAZING! One of the best sculpts i've seen! Can't wait to follow the moulding process.

AMAZINGGGG!!! :eek

Wonderful sculpt. Well done mate. Looking forward to the moulding process.
If you get stuck with how to go about it give me a shout. My prop mate is great at mould designs.

Cheers
Mark.

Superb mate. Sorry I didn't get back to you the other day - life got in the way a bit, but you really whetted my appetite to see the final state of him and wow, you sure didn't disappoint. Just amazing.

Now...hie thee to a rubbery! :lol Sorry, not sure if that joke really works, but ya know what I mean. :)

very well done, not just the sculpt itself but the composition of the piece too, it really flows well.

Flow ist the right word to describe it! It looks very organic and natural, it really couldn't be any better! Congratulations! You can be very very proud!

:D Many thanks for the feedback :)

Yeah, the next stage will be to position the pieces in preparation for building the partition's. The main body section is going to be difficult to set in position due to the shape & lack of hard area's to support it from. At present I'm thinking to partition the body mould into 3 pieces, front, back & underside.
Being that most of the surface is soft I'm still leaning toward a brush on silicone & then building a GRP jacket over that.
I'm still a little nervous at the thought of making the moulds, I want them to be as flawless as possible.
What I don't want to do is mark the surface with the partitions but I have a feeling I may just have to accept there may be a few minor marks here & there.

With regard to the surface finish on him, its a mix of textured & smooth.
There's texture on the sides of his face, sides of his neck, back of his neck, most of his back leading into the pauldrons, the inside of the pauldrons & in between the ribs.
All the raised shapes on his chest like the ribs & the tops of the pauldrons are smooth.
I found a method for smoothing that seemed to give good results, for me anyway :)
I smoothed off the area with the tools as much as possible, then brushed the surface with white spirit which left brush marks but it did smooth out the tool marks. I then dowsed the area with talc & then polished it with my finger. I found I could get a real glossy shine on the surface just by rubbing it with talc :)

Thanks again for the kind words folks :)

Now that was an update worth waiting for! :love As other's have already said it's perfect, amazing ... I think we're going to have to come up with another superlative for your work ... perhaps we just call it Leigh-Worthy as it was your vision and perfectionism that got you here.

Very Well Done! ... Now don't screw up the molding :lol

Re: Bob the Alien (Giger inspired Alien) Sculpting finished page 45

Fantastic. Can't wait to see this painted.
Will you start working on the dome after it's been molded, and work off of a base casting?

It really is a beautiful sculpt.
