Blade Runner LA Satellite Image

OK, I've finished the sat map portion. Now I have to do the text overlay.

Here's the original sat map, circa 2007:

And circa 2019:

...and a few details:

Keeps getting better by leaps and bounds. I can't help but smile seeing those Spinners flying around... :D

Is it just me, or do those look an awful lot like Alliance medical patches from Serenity?

Ah well, regardless - the map looks fantastic.

One other little detail. This is a mid-town hospital. Firefly fans might recognize the medical symbol....

The little touches and inside references make it much cooler for us uber-geeks.

Well, shoot - I guess I shoulda read the whole thread. :rolleyes

Hey. I'm not an uber- .... oh wait. I just spent dozens of hours putting together an overhead map from a two-decade-old sci-fi film. Nevermind.

Geezus that is simply awesome....

Congrats on one of the most original ideas yet along with a fatasic exacution.

You are the man Whitefall

I just know I'm bitching... Can't help it, but when I notice stuff, I notice stuff.

The drop shadows are all over the place direction wise. That makes my initial impression of what I see as "wrong".

Hope you don't mind my comment...

Nope, I never mind input, so thanks.

You're right, they are - it's an unfixable result of the way I did it, but I let it slide due to the multiple sources of light that are going on in the image.

:lol

I also forgot to say...great job on the map, Whitefall.

Those spinners floating around Police HQ and the futuristic billboard right beside it looks great.

Absolutely stunning fantastic work, but I still say the pyramids are too close to the city :)..."your a dedicated man..."

And...... done.

I added a text overlay, the idea being that this is a satellite map that's included in the full report of Deckard's replicant hunt, showing his movements on that day. I ended up stripping it way back from what I had originally intended.

Here's the whole thing:

And a couple of details:

And the sectors, which are based around City Hall (built over the actual location of City Hall):

... now I just have to go get it printed to see how it comes out.

Just a thought, maybe add a couple of GBS lat/long points at the important locations. They should be pretty available on those GPS units that have maps imbedded. If you could get me the street addresses relative to today's LA, I'll get those coordinates if you'd like.

Will you be making this available for sale in a print version or as a file?

It is really a work of art. THANKS for doing this and for sharing.

I just thought of something. I hope this isn't nitpicking because I know I can do that all to well :)...if this is a satellight image there would be no foreshortening. Buldings would not taper with the perspective and the spinners would all be the same size (pretty much too small to see). Maybe this is like the arial maps made nowdays using lowflying aircraft. With flight technology so advanced you could say there is a permanent stationary surveilance Blimp floating above the city to keep an "eye" on things. It would go perfectly with the movies theme. Otherwise some know it all nerds will call you out on it ;)

It looks like GIS mapping which is done at a lower altitude than geosync satellites. You can get oblique angles, building details, etc. This map looks more like a GIS map than a satellite map...which means more detail, better definition, etc.
