Blade Runner LA Satellite Image

Hi folks,

I started up a project, and I'm looking for any comments or suggestions.

I'm doing a satellite image of LA as it might have been taken during Blade Runner. I started off with a high-res (300 DPI at poster size) image of LA that included the Bradbury, Union Station ( later to be the LA police station), second street tunnel, etc.:

I thought I'd modify it by adding the Tyrell towers, putting the police station over Union Station, leaving the Bradbury, and generally BR-izing it. I thought at the end I'd trick it out to look like some sort of police document that showed where Deckard went on his replicant hunt.

Here's a closer image of the Tyrell pyramids. I added a wall around them to make it sort of a compound:

And a closer veiw of some of the industrializing of the landscape. I'm leaving the major highways, but sinking them and loading them with traffic:

Anyway, there's a lot to go, but I'm looking for any thoughts or suggestions....

:thumbsup Thats crazy.... Pretty cool work, can't wait to see the completed pic.

Impressive. Very Impressive...

Brilliant idea and execution of it so far. :thumbsup

I am really looking forward to seeing your progress on this..

You should desaturate the pyramids and make the shadow of the tower longer, but except these minor crits, the work is really really good.

Very original idea and very cool work. The only comment I'd have is to make it more...dirty. The city was clearly brackish due to the smog and soot from the factories and methane towers. Otherwise wonderful work.

That is too cool, I would agree maybe a filter to make it look less sunny and more smoggy. Amazing though, the detail & execution is impressive.

Thanks for the suggestions. Here it is with a little smog cover:

At the end I'll have to do some "sweetening" (if you can call it that), with additional smog, fire spouts, etc.

I'll also modify those tyrell tower shadows....

(Oh, and if you're wondering about the size of the towers, they're actually accurate based on what was shown in the film. Check out Nexus 6's great screen analysis of the size here: http://www.propcircle.com/showthread.php?t=515 )

OK, I took the suggestions, and here's an updated shot of the "Tyrell compound":

... and if you zoom in and look between the towers, you can see a reeeealy crowded highway down there (again, this is the actual highway in that area of LA):

Fantastic project. Love it..

We need to see a string of traffic cutting through the sky.

Also, where are the fire exhaust streams?

Can't wait to see what all you add to this.

Nick

Awesome project. It looks great so far.

The only thing that sticks out is the lack of dirt/grime (but I'm assuming this is a 'last step' detail to be added later). But your progress so far is top-notch. Ever thought about being a matte-painter? Looks like you've got the necessary skills... :)

OK, I think I'm pretty much done with the Tyrell compound (I'll add flyover spinners, etc. later):

There's even a big "security port" where the ground road enters through the wall.

Now to flesh out the rest of the city

awsome work. I find it strange though that Tyrell would have his pyramids surrounded by the industrial waste instead of keeping it nice around it and having the Hades landscape between him and the city as it looked in the film. I have been playing with google earth and looking at cities for BResque landscapes thanks to you. :)

I need an opinion. How's this for the size of the police headquarters (it's over Union Station)? I realize it might be a little big, but I want it to be visible.

Here's the very beginnings of the city buildout. It's not much, and I still have a lot of sweetening to do (color, smokestacks, etc), but this is how crammed I want to do them.

Also, I wanted to have a "dead zone" or "kipple" between the edge of the city proper and the Tyrell compound wall...

Next step - I put Hawker's Circle / Animoid Row around the former area of Dodger Stadium...

... and jammed it with traffic and people. Obviuosly the area just outside of Hawker's Circle / Anomoid Row hasn't been touched yet.

Thoughts?
