Blade Runner LA Satellite Image

It's looking great. Keep up the solid work... you're well on your way to a killer piece. :thumbsup

Your progress is awesome. Out of curiosity what's your background, are you a mapper ?

Nope - just an overly obsessive fan.

I like the idea of adding the blimp.....

It was also suggested that I add a bunch of neon to Hawker's Circle. Thoughts?

And here's an alternate "B" version:

I think no matter what I do, though, it won't really "stand out" from the rest of the map becuase it won't be dark enough.

Here's the ongoing city buildout. Once complete, the buildings themselves will be much darker, with color tinting, flames, etc....

OK, I need an opinion. I'm following the suggestion of isolating the Police station a bit (I'm going to have a cleared rubble section running from the Police HQ to city hall). I've also shrunk the station by about 30%.

Now I need to make it look decent. I wanted to obscure the bottom of the station, so here's an attempt (it's pulled out of the rest of the sat map so the background is black at the moment). Thoughts?

I like it.

Have you looked at industrial areas and refineries such as those located in Torrance CA? There are various refineries in Torrance, a hyperion plant located in Playa del Rey (where the interior of Aliens was filmed) that has a futuristic exterior on the main buildings, another oil refinery which I believe is Chevron in El Segundo....
Also dont forget about the Port of Los Angeles. You will find alot of industrial looking places in that area not to mention run down looking locations.

Great work so far - you could make the larger structures seem more integrated into the cityscape by having large roads leading up to them and narrow roads round part of the base?

Again, thanks for all the great input everyone. I'll be applying most of the suggestions as I go along.

For now, I'm bouncing around to different areas to keep my interest up. This is the progress of an "uber-slum" in the lower portion of the map, where the Bradbury is. In the shots from the film, it always looked to me like the buildings were taller away from the Bradbury.

In case you're wondering, that slightly out-of-place looking building with the bright roof is the actual Bradbury, where it is actually located, at scale.

(The building with the circular areas will eventually be city hall, with a cleared rubble area leading t the police station).

Here's the status so far. The city buildout is tedious, and when it's done, there will be a lot of color tweaking to do, but here it so far.

A couple of details: I don't know if you can tell, but the tops of the Tyrell pyramids actually poke through the cloud cover. Also, there are D-S and Tyrell logos on a couple of those huge round tanks:

One other little detail. This is a mid-town hospital. Firefly fans might recognize the medical symbol....

Thought I'd post an update:

And a zoom in on the partially complete trench running between city hall (over the actual city hall) and the police HQ (over Union Station):

simply outstanding.

Just out of curiosity..how large is this 24x36 or something in that area?

BTW love the blimp :)

Thanks.

Right now it's sized to fit a standard poster frame at 27" x 19" at 300 DPI. Becuase it's 300 DPI, I could actually go larger than that, if needed...
