Not a huge update but I finally scored a real uranium glass Saturn lamp! The one I had was all vintage but it was one of the painted ones that were white frosted glass. The paint was stripped off and I sprayed it florescent green trying to match the color of the screen used prop. It was always meant to be a stand-in until I could find an authentic uranium glass one at a "reasonable" price. They come up for sale very rarely and the last few that did, sold for way more than I was willing to pay. I got this one at about half the price of the last one. Unfortunately, someone had tried to "improve" the lamp by gluing some weird glass bead / sand looking stuff inside the globe. It took me a little while to carefully scrape it all out and clean it up. The wiring was also very sketchy as it was the original from 1939 so I rewired it with vintage style cloth wrapped/twisted wire and new plug.
Here it is as I received it. I have no idea what this colored sand stuff was supposed to be but it was nasty work getting it out of there without damaging the glass. The seller said it was done back in the 80's.
And here it is all cleaned up. Much better! I did remove the original planet/moon/star stickers that were on the inside. The screen used one doesn't have them anymore and they were caked in that sand stuff so they had to come out.
And here it is in its new home!

The Japanese for "Viewscreen" is best expressed as "画面" (screen) since the "look at" part isn't a good translation を見る (look at) and therefore not needed....

Thank you! Yes, I figured it was an inaccurate translation. I just needed something with 4 characters to match the prop. I have some slightly higher resolution screenshots that show the characters a bit better. If you're willing to take a look and see if you can tell what they are, I'd be extremely appreciative. Next up... ANOTHER LAMP!
This guy has been a thorn in my saddle for MONTHS! After searching everything I could think of nonstop for months and months I have come to the conclusion that these lamps simply do not exist. Nobody has ANY information on them. I seriously doubt they were made for the movie (there are two of them). They appear to be made from pink/beige alabaster or onyx and have a unique upside down square bell shade.
Obviously commissioning someone to carve this out of alabaster would be WAY out of my price range but I needed to have one in my office to fill out that back corner area.
I thought about laser cutting marbled acrylic panels and trying to heat form them to the right shape, but it would still have been $800 or more just for the acrylic and I couldn't find anyone who would cut it in sheets big enough to make it from.
Just when I had pretty much given up,
I ran across a rectangular marble lamp base at a home goods store while shopping for christmas decorations with my wife.
Right next to it was a square bell shade that was almost the perfect size proportionally.
And it was less than $100 for everything! It's a bit small so it's not full scale but neither is my chair so I decided it would have to work.
I snagged them and brought them home to figure out how to redesign it to accept the shade upside down. It was fairly easy to figure out and in about an hour I had something that I think totally looks the part.
I did end up finding a slightly different shade that I think is closer in size and shape proportionally and it's ok but it's still not perfect.
But here it is as it looks currently.
I have a couple of options. I can either try to lighten the shade and somehow darken the marble a bit so that they're roughly the same color.
Or I could also just get a plain white shade and hydro dip it to give it that marbled look. I've seen examples on the internet and it looks pretty good. Here's one that's been hydro dipped to look marbled.
I'm open to ideas and suggestions.

I think that lamp looks perfect as a representation of the real thing. Great find!

My wife made fun of me the other day, saying I stopped collecting Star Wars to start collecting lamps without even realizing it.
Next up in this 1940s-1950s Gerald Thurston for Lightolier "saucer" style table lamp.
It's seen in Deckard's bedroom a couple of times, and it's also on the end table of the couch although you only see the arm of it in the film. It's more visible in the "Dangerous Days" documentary.
A HUGE shout out and thank you to rickhoward for the assist on this one.
Here it is in its new home. I had to rearrange a couple of items to make some room for it but I think it fits well.
