Blade Runner Inspired Office Build: Deckard's Apartment

Reminds me of that BR9732 demo game from a few years back, where you could go through Deckard's apartment and interact with objects that had audio recordings. Very cool idea!

Now the question is, with all these awesome distractions all around your office, how are you going to get any work done?
Yes! Exactly! haha

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it) my job is pretty fast paced and busy so I don't get distracted by it until quitting time.

But, when it's time for a whiskey (i prefer bourbon) it's a simple tap of the phone to the "Blade Runner Mode" tag and the whole room comes to life. haha. I giggle every time.

Where did you manage to find the folding instruction for this unicorn? Everyo ne I have tried is not close to accurate. short thick neck, wrong body angle etc.
This is going to make me sound even nerdier. But I used to do origami in high school haha. SO I recognized the base folds and tweaked one of the closer versions, looking at screenshots, to better duplicate what I see on screen. I only made the one so I couldn't tell you what I did differently.

I recently saw one that I thought was really close. If you make a couple of them and stare at screenshots, it becomes pretty clear what needs to be adjusted to get it closer. I'll see if I can find it for you.

EDIT:
I think this one is pretty close. You'll need to adjust the proportions of the legs and neck, but the folds are fairly close.
There are also some youtube tutorials. You definitely need silver foil, one-sided actual origami paper though, so it'll be the right size. I bought a pack of 100 on amazon for pretty cheap.

If I was you, I would sleep in that room:p:p

A bit of progress on the skylight frame. Once it's dry, I can start assembling and get this beast mounted to the ceiling! Good thing I've been working out LOL.

OK, Let's talk about atmosphere! One of the key elements that I feel is still missing from getting the mood of my office just perfect, is the haze in the air that allows the beams of light to show through. I absolutely want to [safely] incorporate this into my office from time to time so I've been doing a little bit of research on options. I saw a great youtube video by asavage and Norm about the Smoke Genie, a small / portable smoke machine used for cosplay and photography. This is similar to what I'm looking for, but I'm learning that there's a difference between a fog machine, a smoke machine, and a haze machine. Is it purely the fluid you use that makes the difference? or does it require different hardware as well?
Anyone with theater or club experience care to chime in? I'm definitely wanting haze. No big clouds of smoke or low-lying fog. Just something that stays in the air for a bit to hopefully accentuate the downlight beams and whatever peeks through the blinds. My office is small so I don't think it would take much. I've seen very small fog machines for $60 on amazon but I don't know if they'll work with haze fluid, and seem to be more water based. I also think I'd prefer water based as I know oil based or VGA type vapor will build up a residue, so I don't know if it's possible to do a haze that fills the room, with a water-based solution. I definitely don't want a layer of oil all over these antique lamps, photos, and my piano. I know there's also going the "vape" route but that didn't really seem like what I'm looking for.
There's also the "haze in a can" option, which is a spray can specifically made for hazing small rooms for photography purposes. But I was hoping for something I could somehow add to a smart plug or that came with a remote and could therefore trigger remotely.

Seriously though…. Are you opposed to lighting the occasional joss stick? The addition of a bit of oriental fragrance along with the haze would complete the sensory delights, and would fit right in with the decor.

That was my original thought. Incense typically gives me a headache so I was hoping to not have to resort to actual smoke. In my head it would be activated via a smart momentary switch to run for a couple of seconds when I run the “start up” sequence. May not be realistic though, and it’s probably not smart to have anything like that wired up in case something went wrong in the middle of the night.

I want to know who you're hiring to build the blimp that'll pass randomly by the window blaring spotlights in your face and warbling some meditative monk-like chant, while instructing you on large vid screens to start your new life in the off-world colonies, which will only annoy you as you've just spent all that time remodelling your office and have no intention of moving anytime soon.

No physical blimp but I did throw the sound elements into the background of the apartment sounds loop. The blimp "goes by" every hour or so. :D

The problem with any type of smoke effects is that someone has to distribute/fan it around the set for the proper effect.
Also, the amount of smoke wanted is usually on the "saturated level" type of effect. The smoke will rise toward your ceiling rather than the floor.
So to saturate the entire room you have to really get that smoke machine work overtime to fill that room from top to bottom.

Another problem is that the smoke will not stay in that room alone; it'll be distributed amongst other rooms in your house for the simple fact that you have air draft coming from various places/spots (doors, windows) that will make this endeavour very difficult if not impossible.:(;)
