Unlimited Run Blade Runner - Deckard's Blaster (Version 3)

Re: Blade Runner Gun (3D Printed Kit)

Much appreciated! Thx very much.

I have the microcontrolled LEDs working now, thx to my friend David. The 2 red LEDs on either side fade on and off etc. I drilled a 5th red LED hole in the bottom of the LED pack in the logo center. It stays lit. Very cool. The LEDs really add a sweet visual sophistication to this Replica. Just a small part to complete for the display stand..... and then it`s all done. Mischief managed. ;p It will be a unique Xmas gift for my Son.

Re: Blade Runner Gun (3D Printed Kit)

I'm working on this kit at the moment. Got everything sanded, and ready to prime and paint. This is the first kit like this I've ever worked on, and am having trouble with the screws, How do I use them, and how do I cut the heads off? I do have a rotary tool I bought for this.

You could use a rotary tool, or a hacksaw. Just cut off the threads and glue in place. Can't wait to see it when you get it done

Re: Blade Runner Gun (3D Printed Kit)

Someone told me this kit was undersized. Is that true? if so how? I think I'd rather try this one than the water gun but I would like the appropriate size.

Still a w.i.p.. ;) My LED pack should be arriving today. My buddy added a microcontroller .... so the 2 side LEDs on both sides fade
on and off. The bottom LED stays on though. The stand is clear plexi..... with protective covering atm. Still need to complete the small display stand bracket under the LED pack. Coming along though. ;p

That is absolutely stunning, mate. The paint job is perfect and I’m drooling over the outcome. Steller work, my hats off to you.

Compared to the squirt gun, about 5% smaller. The real gun, not sure as I've never held one...

But this one is functional and imo - more fun to build...

Re: Blade Runner Gun (3D Printed Kit)

Well, I received my grips from Soulinertia today. I'm wondering the best way to go about getting them shorter / smaller so that they fit the rest of the kit. At the moment, sanding is all I can come up with. Any ideas? I understand that I can add to the frame so th?
at the grips will work, too. How would I do this? Bondo?

Re: Blade Runner Gun (3D Printed Kit)

I sent you a message explaining how I did it. But decided to post a couple of pics showing how it looked after adding the filler piece. Hope this will be helpful. 20171109_091826.jpg20171109_091840.jpg

Imho putting in the filler piece is THE best and cleanest way to do it. Making Soulinertias beautiful Amber grips smaller will hurt the look. A full grip looks best and feels great in an adult hand. Looks more authentic. If you read thru my hopefully understandable small tutorial, and look at these pics, you will do fine.

Re: Blade Runner Gun (3D Printed Kit)

Almost finished with this thing! I've got some pics, but for some reason I cannot upload ANY kind of .jpg files to RPF (uploading a link doesn't work, either). I made sure the files were under the file size limit, too. Not sure what the deal is. But it looks great! I wasn't completely comfortable with a couple of things, so I ended up enlisting my buddy Kyle H. to help me finish this thing (he actually ended up doing 90% of the entire thing - he's done a fantastic job, too). Soulinertia's grips should be on today as soon as he finishes enlarging the grip frame a little. I'd love to share some pics, but I'm a a total loss on how to do it. Any suggestions?

bogginhead; I'd love to share some pics said:
This happened to me in another thread the other day. I took screenshots of the pictures I was trying to upload, THEN uploaded the screenshot .png file instead. And it worked... Probably not the best way to work around, but it worked.

Re: Blade Runner Gun (3D Printed Kit)

Well, the gun is done. But it's awful. I decided to let a friend of mine do most of the work on it, thinking that he'd do a much better job than I. I guess I should have done it myself. It needs a totally new paint job, and he actually got friggin superglue all over those beautiful Soulinertia grips!!! I've got about $180 in this thing. Is there anyone that would want to fix this thing up? It's completely put together, and rgriesbeck is sending me a couple more leds. As soon as those are in, I'd ship it to whoever would be willing. And I'm willing to pay, of course.

Wow! Sorry to hear this Bogginhead. Hopefully someone good at these kinds of fixes can help.

Re: Blade Runner - Deckard's Gun (3D Printed Kit)

The only screws I could find small enough for the barrel top ..... are sewing machine screws. Turned out sweet though. ;p

Re: Blade Runner - Deckard's Gun (3D Printed Kit)

Much thx! Sure thing. For my Primer coats, I always use UPOL #5 High Solids primer. It fills waaaay better than a normal primer. After sanding a 3D print kit, imo you need a good high solids primer to get a smooth primered surface after sanding. I as well used 1/8th inch Fine Line painters masking tape to mask off the gun barrel lettering so no primer got in the letter etching.

For paints... all I used was 3 basic colors. Krylon ColorMaster Semi-Gloss Black.... for the black parts. For the gun grip pommel and 2 bolts on the Kits right hand side plus the part inside the main barrel, I used Humbrol MetalCote Polished Aluminum Spray. For the gun grip frame and barrels... receiver arm, and bullet tumbler and tumbler arm, thumb switches, I used Humbrol MetalCote Polished Steel Spray. The MetalCote Spray cans give a great finish. After applying, you wait over night, then use a soft cloth to buff to desired metallic shine look. Done. No need for any clear top coats. Have no worries about spraying the MetalCote directly over your barrel etching. It is a very thin paint. It will not hide your etched lettering.

I prepainted your Kit...... before assembling. Gun grip and barrels were 1 complete unit. It is the only way imho to not face the nightmare of trying to mask off a completed gun Kit. Once all parts are painted and dry, do a last prefit so you know what part to install and in what order.

Thx again. Hope this info can be helpful to others to achieve a great finish on your Kits! Feel free to ask about anything I have not been clear about.
