Blade Runner 2049

re: Blade Runner Sequel

Unlike what happened with Prometheus, I can't really think of any way that a sequel to Blade Runner could be any worse. The thing that made Prometheus bad in a special kind of way is that it tried to change the scope of the original films by taking the "alien" out of it and declaring it was us the whole time. Unless the sequel said that the Replicants were actually human the whole time and they were just suffering from a fatel disease that takes four years to kill you, we should be fine.

re: Blade Runner Sequel

Well, so much for that then. /// People will be as baffled by "Blade Runner 2" as they were by "Prometheus." :eek

You didn't see this coming? BR 2 will tarnish Scott's legacy good and proper. BR was a red-headed stepchild which shone both despite and because of the fact it wasn't the pure vision of any of its creators. It can't be recaptured.

And if any of that guff about intergalactic wars between humans and replicants set in the far future is real, I'll be happy. The less seriously we can take this film, the better. :lol

I was guardedly optimistic about this before....

Why?

After Prometheus, though... well, my expectations have fallen through the floor.

Why? :lol

Let's hope the writing is a couple orders of magnitude better on this one.

Why? :lol :p :lol

Seriously, I'm pitching my level of hope at 'entertaining train-wreck'.

If nothing else, it should be pretty to look at.

Safe assumption.

I will ignore any "proof" of these sequels and TV show, as There Can Be Only One.

+1! Similar to my view about Star Wars sequels and prequels - it'd be nice if it happened, maybe, but I really think Star Wars was lightning in a bottle and they shouldn't try going back to that well. :lol

(I mean someone might try something offensively stupid, like cutting the Wookies in half and having dwarfs play them to save money, or something.) :p

re: Blade Runner Sequel

Well I know what I would want to see if they must make a sequel...

Compelling smart Sci Fi, set in that same 'verse is fine, DON'T update it, leave it future/retro noir... CRTs and ALL!, Set totally outside of the BR story arc and not involving any BR characters save perhaps the Tyrell corporation entity if they must.

With you 100%.

Makes the most sense to look at other PKD stories that could fit into the BR verse but I'm sure others could work there. Do NOT make it for the masses! It has to be made for the hard Sci Fi and cinema fan. There is a market there, many more fans of BR today then back in 1982 when I sat in theaters with hardly anyone there. I do NOT want to see the BR verse again with shaky cam and silly CGI action sequences.

Amen. It should almost be treated as a period piece. That's kind of what it would be, anyway. Do it with a smaller budget. Hire a good, charismatic, competent ensemble cast; don't waste money on A-listers. Extend scenes and sets with CG by all means. Give us nice expansive effects shots, but not a barrage of them. For Chrissake, get Vangelis on board, whatever it takes. Don't *try* for a commercial hit. Let it happen if it's going to.

If they want some overlapping story aspects with BR then fine, but don't abuse or overuse the original. maybe show some of the things
in the book they left out about the culture. The whole Mercerism thing might have some interesting places to explore.
I think replicants have told their story.
Time for another unique perspective that Sci Fi can deliver.

I love you, man. Seriously.

I've wondered if Off World is a place to go, I always wondered what the colonies were like, but I think that might remove too much
from the whole future noir concept of staying on earth with all it's troubles.

Definitely a risk, but could be an interesting one. Show us what a BR universe Mars colony looks like. Could be cool, and not necessarily un-noirish.

Unless the sequel said that the Replicants were actually human the whole time and they were just suffering from a fatel disease that takes four years to kill you, we should be fine.

Everybody please take note. It was Jeyl who jinxed it, right here. :facepalm

:lol

re: Blade Runner Sequel

Replicants created humanity. I don't need proof. It's what I choose to believe.

Your are so close to the truth man, just take it the next step and your there...
Ridley Scott created humanity. He is his own granpa.

Only if the script ends up being re-written by Damon Lindelof. I don't think that will be the case since he and his wife, JJ Abrams' Mystery Box, have finally gotten around to their honeymoon.

Ha!

"Blade Runner 2

Pop singer Katy Perry says she would like to play Rachael in the sequel, on the grounds that, hey, she sort of looks like Sean Young, a little, if you haven’t looked at photos of either of them in a while and maybe weren’t wearing your glasses at the time. That wasn’t exactly the argument she made, admittedly. [Metro]"

I'm sorry, but this is a train wreck waiting to happen. Don't get me wrong I love Blade Runner, but any new BR movie with the pace of the original will bomb. In fact, the original bombed. It became a cult classic. If they amp it up for today's audiences it will lose the original magic. Personally, I think it's a no-win situation.

I sincerely hope I am wrong......

I like the way you worded this. I had to explain this in a long about way to my son before I watched BR with him the first time. I think I went with the idea it was a slow build and that he would have to hang on thru a few parts :)

This bears multiple repeating...

I think it may be a LOT harder to try and recapture the magic in BR than it was for Star Wars... fans flipped about how the "feeling" of the originals didnt carry to the PT...

And I fully agree that if this film or a perfectly remanufactured sequel were brought out... it will flop in the box office...

And I also agree that if you "modern it up" too much to sell to the Beiber gen... your CORE FANS will be OUTRAGED.

Lose lose!!!

Yet I really want to see it...

Does that make sense? LOL!!!

re: Blade Runner Sequel

I would love to see them do this. Even if it's not as good or even down right bad it doesn't detract one bit from the original.

re: Blade Runner Sequel

Here's a sequel for ya.Instead of dekkard chasing the replicants in the sequel.Have the replicants chase him and racheal down, trying to find out the secret to her longer life span.At least sean young would have a better movie role for a change.

re: Blade Runner Sequel

I felt a good story would be people are looking to replicants as vessels for their Consciousness, as a way to cheat death, and are willing to pay any price to have their mind transfered into a new body. The methods Tyrell used to extend the lives of Deckard and Rachel were destroyed as well all files relating to them, after his death to prevent the information from getting out after the events of the original Blade Runner. Once the method of implanting memories and someone's entire consciousness into the brain of a replicant's body was perfected, it was necessary to create a body that could live longer than the standard 4yr life span. Once it has been determined that Rachel and Deckard may still be alive, several bounty hunters go after the couple, hoping to cash in on a bounty that has been put on their heads to bring them in alive to see what makes them tick.....But deckard won't be easy to take down ;)

Blade Runner comments fabricated says Sean Young | Blade Runner 2 Movie News

Blade Runner comments fabricated says Sean Young

Sean Young has posted two official statements on her Facebook denouncing the unflattering comments she allegedly made about the Blade Runner sequel as fabrication.

I did some interviews for JUG FACE and one of the reporters fabricated a story about me saying I'd boycott Bladerunner if I weren't in it. I called up Ridley Scott and told him the story was BS. A guy named Simon Reynolds of Digital Spy wrote the BS. I guess it was a slow news day and he needed to fake a story on an easy target. So tired of lame people who have no morals but thank GOD that's not me! Poor slob...."

"I want to say officially that the comments circulating about Bladerunner sequel, Prometheus and anything negative about Charlize Theron which is printed is fabricated by reporters who want to spin something into a negative article. Normally I don't give a *hit but I am a huge fan of some of the people who I am allegedly slamming and for the actual record I have not said the things that are currently being circulated. I wish the press had some integrity but that's life in the fast lane I guess...."

I really hope this gets green lit and they do it just right. I would hate to see it look like the Total Recall Redux last year..
