Blade Runner 2049

Re: Blade Runner Sequel

I'd like to see a new story with none of the original actors or characters... a new story with no connections to to first film except for the setting.
Clive Owen would make a nice blade runner.

I agree with everything you said. Although even a two second Deckard cameo would make me happy, he even has a tiny cameo in the old Blade Runner PC game as an easter egg.

Re: Blade Runner Sequel

Honestly I'd rather have a Prometheus sequel than a Blade Runner sequel. Or another movie set in the BR universe but not directly connected to the first film

Re: Blade Runner Sequel

SRS is 76 now?.. Time to get crackin' mate! I'll opt for a BR movie any day (Prometheus was a dud IMO)...but then again, my opinion is slightly influenced by my Avatar; I haven't been the same since that Voight-Kampff test:D

Re: Blade Runner Sequel

I always thought they would make the sequel for bladerunner about decker and Rachel off in the mountains and another group of skin jobs is sent to kill them or bring them back to tyrell corp as the company was bought out by a competitor after tyrells death. and there planning on using there bodys for research. imagine 89 year old billionaires buying the technology to down load your mind into a younger replicant. even a four year life span would be exceptable. you just keep downloading to a new body.

Re: Blade Runner Sequel

Sounding like they are going a poor direction for me as I hoped against, Geezer Deckard is not something I want to see nor want to know. His story ended just fine in 1982.

Re: Blade Runner Sequel

No having SRS directing could be a good thing: fresh director with a new philosophy on how to direct the sequel.

Re: Blade Runner Sequel

with all the initial hype from Promethius, now that it's been a few years I've concluded it was really bad and a waste.

Maybe Bladrunner should just stay as one film and let us use our imagination on what happened next.

Re: Blade Runner Sequel

The purpose of any sequel is to propagate story.
What makes Blade Runner special has less to do with the story and more to do with the presentation.
Therefore a sequel isn't likely going to enhance anything about Blade Runner, as far as I'm concerned.

And with Ridley Scott so drawn into CGI (e.g. Prometheus) I feel as if any treatment is going to naturally be more CGI than practical effects.
This is what I fear. I have yet to find any CGI film that has the kinetic magic that the best practical and in-camera effects can conjure.
And Blade Runner is the quintessential example of this.

I'm wary of this prospect.

Re: Blade Runner Sequel

Well maybe with Scott gone if that is the case, can I hope someone will try to go for something new just set in that verse and not a direct sequel again?

No question that this future film noir environment can be home to many engaging tales not centering on the characters/topics of the first film.
I would think creative types would chomp at the bit to tell a private detective story there.
And go CRTs or go home! Keep it "real" man. Don't friggin' update the future!
