Blade Runner 2049

Re: they just hired the guy who wrote "Green Lantern" to write the "Blade Runner" seq

Wow they love killing franchises. Only thing to make this news worse is if they brought in the two hacks who wrote transformers and have it directed by JJ abrams and michael bay.

could it be worst than highlander 2 tho? Wonder what the line is on that in vegas

Shouldn't this be in the Entertainment forum?

Just further proof that Ridley has lost his mind! :lol

re: Blade Runner Sequel

I was guardedly optimistic about this before....

After Prometheus, though... well, my expectations have fallen through the floor. Let's hope the writing is a couple orders of magnitude better on this one.

If nothing else, it should be pretty to look at.

What is this "Highlander 2" you speak of? To my best recollection, there can be only one.

I'd heard rumors of a few sequels in the works as well as a television series, but that can't be right. Connor won The Prize at the end of the movie. No sequel should be possible, and I will ignore any "proof" of these sequels and TV show, as There Can Be Only One.

Breaking Future News: Hot off the tails of Star Wars, JJ Abrams is now heading the new Blade Runner movie. When asked why of the master of mediocrity, he said, "They [the studio heads] need a movie fast, and they need it to not be bad but not good at the same time. It just needs to exist..." When further questioned about how the audience would react, he responded, "Honestly, what would they know? You went to see Star Wars VII, didn't you?"

re: Blade Runner Sequel

Sometimes Movies Are So Iconic, They Don’t Need a Sequel

Though I am glad Ridley Scott is back to directing this and thus will be expanding the Blade Runner universe further, I can't help but wonder that this sequel is bound to disappoint most fans and the look of the future in the sequel would be a big departure from the original; unless they decide to set it much further than 2019 thus making it more acceptable.

re: Blade Runner Sequel

Star Wars and The Terminator are both iconic. It could be said that their sequels were MORE iconic.

re: Blade Runner Sequel

Difference being their sequels were few years apart, of course T2 had a bigger time gap than the Star Wars sequel. Still those sequels reflected the same times as their predecessor, in this case 30 years is a huge gap.

re: Blade Runner Sequel

Here's a question. Blade Runner certainly is an iconic movie, however it took some time before it gained acceptance. If Blade Runner was an overwhelming success upon it's original release, do you think there would have been sequels made already?

Possibly, Ford wouldn't have done it...I can see a cheap-o Blade Runner 2 pushed through by the studios though.

re: Blade Runner Sequel

Well I know what I would want to see if they must make a sequel...

Compelling smart Sci Fi, set in that same 'verse is fine, DON'T update it, leave it future/retro noir... CRTs and ALL!, Set totally outside of the BR story arc and not involving any BR characters save perhaps the Tyrell corporation entity if they must.

Makes the most sense to look at other PKD stories that could fit into the BR verse but I'm sure others could work there. Do NOT make it for the masses! It has to be made for the hard Sci Fi and cinema fan. There is a market there, many more fans of BR today then back in 1982 when I sat in theaters with hardly anyone there. I do NOT want to see the BR verse again with shaky cam and silly CGI action sequences.

If they want to augment it then of course, go ahead and make that world breath even more.
And that is the word.... Ridleyville breathed. It was a living character.

If they want some overlapping story aspects with BR then fine, but don't abuse or overuse the original. maybe show some of the things
in the book they left out about the culture. The whole Mercerism thing might have some interesting places to explore.
I think replicants have told their story.
Time for another unique perspective that Sci Fi can deliver.

I've wondered if Off World is a place to go, I always wondered what the colonies were like, but I think that might remove too much
from the whole future noir concept of staying on earth with all it's troubles.
