Limited Run BLADE RUNNER 2049: Officer K (Ryan Gosling) Jacket/Coat - NOW SELLING

Any news on coating for noobies? There are a couple of fellas that post it his methods, but all of them going thru paint the jacket - what i can't/want to do. Like I said I'm a sort of noobie and alredy spoil my WSL jacket doing a (failed) coating. Bloodmike ported a superb work and also did robo3687, but they have experience and skills which I haven't.

I've now shipped and sent tracking numbers for most of the first and second run. (Tracking sent through etsy mostly). If you haven't received a tracking number, there's one of a few reasons:

1. You are international, and have not responded to my etsy message or email asking for your phone number. I need it to ship.
2. You are one of the 4 people whose coats my manufacturer didn't send with the last order. Not sure why, possibly due to receiving custom sizes later.
3. Your coat arrived without its proper identifying name tag, and I had to use process of elimination to figure out which was yours. This is 1 or 2.

Regardless of which may have happened, all the rest are still on their way out very soon. Some will be shipped directly from the manufacturer, some from me.

Looks great dude. XXL you say? I'm beginning to worry now that my Medium wont be big enough. Are you like 7Ft tall or something? I'm 5'9" and 75kg so hopefully medium fits....

Haha. No I'm 6'3" 107kg. If that's helps as a guide

ORNX, I may have knowledge on the technique and the materials, but it was still a shot in the dark. I made my mistakes that. I certainly hope anyone else attempting this would reach out with any questions they might have. I thought about getting a 2nd coat and redoing the process. However, I am extremely happy with Zlurpos product and the laminating process and color,I don’t really feel the need for a 2nd coat.

Question for Zlurpo, do you have indications as to how long you will be offering this coat for purchase? I'm tempted to place the order as soon as I have the funds, since your manufacturer is actively making them. However for practical and budgeting reasons I'd be better off placing an order 5 months from now (to get through spring and summer). Also, I'm curious as to whether you have plans to continue making changes to the coat or if we have seen the final version of the product, thanks.

The only changes would come as a result of resources being unavailable. If, for some reason, the exact weave of canvas stops being something my manufacturer can get, we'd have to find a replacement. Same with the fur and lining and magnets (of the size and shape I'm using).

I don't know for sure how long I'll offer it, but as of now I have no plans to stop.

Thanks, Mike. The main issue is I don't find myself capable to paint The coat. My idea was only to do the coating. I have another coat (the wsl's) and I tried to wax it with disastrous success. Also realize that the waxing method is not the finished accurate, the coat does not have the shine and the result is ultra mate. Only darkens the colour.
Hall made some tests and the varnish without previous painting does not work.
So, I'm in square one.
Zlurpo advice me that maybe I could try to hire one of you successing fellas for do My coating. I don't know about that.
Honestly, I'm lost here.

ONRX...(sorry I messed up your name in the last post). Half the fun is doing it yourself. I understand your reluctance in giving it another go. Once you get your jacket maybe we can work something out.

I understand the struggle. I've spent about £70 on various liquitex products so far and that's just so I can test and nail the finish (which I'm getting closer to but not quite there). Then I'll have to spend another £30-40 buying the bulk quantity of whatever I choose to actually paint the coat. Testing, testing and more testing. At least you've been brave enough to try applying something.

Regarding the varnish, I didn't test it without painting. It was Liquitex who told me not to apply the varnish onto fabric without painting first, but that doesn't necessarily mean it won't work. Just that it needs a thorough testing first.

On that note, I'm rapidly running out of room on the testing scrap Zlurpo sent with my coat :lol

@ONRX and Hall86 - I've also run (nearly) out of space on my Zlurpo scrap trying various attempts at applying liquitex and other gloss sprays etc. I'm actually going back to my square one, with my final strip of extra Zlurpo material, and it actually just arrived - ordered a bar of Otter Wax. My original intention was to wax the fabric somehow, then when we all found out it was a laminate - and after watching several people 'paint' laminate it, i thought that was the move. However, I don't want to paint it a different color and I don't like what happens to the fabric when its been treated with a gloss substance. I've been looking at pictures of the coat again and really, it still looks a bit like waxed cotton to me, so thats the move I think I'm going to pursue. I don't want to lose the color Zlurpo gave us, since I think it's right, so painting it with a color paint before a finish is out of the question for me.

Looking at this picture:

ryan gosling Blade Runner 2049 movie costume.jpg

it looks close enough to a "waxed" military coat to me, and I like the 'weathering' effect that waxed cotton has, so, meh.

ONRX, if I recall correctly, you used a pint or something of wax you needed to melt and then apply? I've heard this is a difficult way to do it and that rubbing a bar of wax is slightly easier, per some tutorials I've read. I'm not going to hold anything back on my last strip of extra Zlurpo fabric so I'll take pics after it happens.

This was the wax I bought:

I need to get more scraps, and in fact I ran out before I could include any with the second run (anyone from run 2 who needs a scrap, let me know and I'll mail you one!)

I'll try to get more and keep including it with orders.

I'm very interested to see your results. I think this is the best way to go about it, plus I really like waxed cotton jackets. Please post pics as soon as you can. My coat should be on the way soon.
