Black Knight

G'day folks thought i'd share my Black Knight build. Taken the better part of a year and a half to put together and i recently debuted it at MCM Birmingham last weekend.
I wanted to make and MCU version of the character, something that could possibly work on film.




Chest armour is heat molded into shape with 5mm foam, layered and cover in carbon fiber and a helix pattern fabric. The symbol was drawn out and transferred to 2mm foam and painted metallic.




Cape is made from several pieces sewn and hemmed together to give the pleated look. Glove are Knight Templar gloves trimmed with red 2mm foam and painted the same way as the chest symbol.




For the Ebony Blade I've chosen the more recent look, its a foam Lotrs sword cut down to size with the new guard sculpted into place, the scabbard is foam and leather measured for the sword.






The photon sword is modeled straight from the comics out of various bits i had laying around.





Helmet is taken from the Black Knight's Avalon armour from Heroes for Hire as thats my favourite version,




By far the hardest part was the scalemail armour. I'd decided that i wanted to not only make it from real metal parts but also make it form fitting. Not going to lie it was very difficult and the many reason the build took so long to finish. Put i got there in the end and the results are something out of this world tbh.

While not the finished suit these were from the first test filling, went well, luckily the problem areas were easy to identify. The neck piece was one such area, so was heavily reduced.

Great Black Knight costume. I'm currently working on getting my Black Knight cosplay outfit ready for a comic con here in San Antonio, TX in Oct so I am giving myself plenty of time to get it to look it's best by then. I bought the BK helmet from a company called Xcoser. I got it from China for $25 & it just arrived today. It is based on the mystic arcana story arc. It's the same design as the one you went with. Great job on the arm/leg/neck chainmail armor btw. Seems everybody else is just doing MCU related Marvel costumes, I'm more into the comic based characters so my BK will be based on his comic look. Don't see too many BK cosplayers.

Thanks for posting those additional pics. My only critique is your choice of boots. It makes the chainmail look odd. My advice is to check out this awesome site called darkknightarmoury.com. They sell the most awesome medieval cosplay items you ever saw. That's where I bought a lot of my Black Knight stuff at such as the gloves/boots/tabard/sword belt/cape. You should get the "high seas boots" for your BK outfit.

Unfortunately you cant really tell by the photos but the boots are actually real knight Templar boots with wide flared ( pirate style) rims just like he wears in the comics Because it's real hand made scale mail (by me and quite heavy too) that goes down into the boot it will look the same no matter the footwear ( and I've tried different styles of foot wear) The rows of scales just above the rim of the boot will overlap the rim as you move about and bunch up and bloom slightly, with random scales hanging over as you see in the photos, it's just a characteristic of the armour, without it I wouldn't be able to move its just one of the many differences between making something realistic ( and excepting it behaving differently in real life) then making an exact non realistic comic version, never really touched on that in the previous posts but I'm sure others are aware of this but hope that helps people in some way when choosing realistic vs strictly comicbook
