Hello fellow Star Wars aficionados!
I can be a bit obsessive when I get my grips on something, and currently, it's trying to find an existing pair of the sneakers used as the base for the Biker Scouts and some Endor Rebel soldiers.
I've gathered some information using old threads on bikerscout.net as well as some info I gathered on my own.
First, some pictures (though I don't know their source...I apologize that I don't know who to give credit to for these)

Here are a couple pics from the Scout:

As far as it's understood, the base sneaker was a part of a line of shoes called "Sierra Sneakers" put out by HI-TEC in the late 70's through the early 80's.
Here is a picture from an eBay auction and an Etsy auction a long while ago selling the presumed fourth iteration of the shoe called the "Sierra Sneaker IV".

These pop up on eBay every once in a while (I've yet to snag a pair, but if anyone can help with that I'd be beyond grateful!)
I think the exact run of the line was from 1979-1982 and I think each year a new number was attached.
Here is some evidence of that...the first picture is from a 1981 issue of "Backpacker" and shows what is presumed to be the 3rd iteration listed for sale (22 bucks?? Done!)

The interesting thing is that the name is different but it's still classified as a "Sierra Sneaker". It's called the "Ranger III Sierra Sneaker". Google searches get me nothing on that.
This second pic is a quick screenshot I took of an archived article from the New York Times Style column from 1982. It seems to support that there were 4 different iterations of the Sierra Sneaker line:

The other interesting note hear is that both the advert and article say that the shoes were put out by "Inter-Footwear USA", which from my understanding was either absorbed by or became Hi-Tec?
I'm wondering if anyone can add anything to the conversation? I don't think an "original" pair of the first version of the shoe has ever been found by someone who would know it's significance to our community and I'm wondering if it's at least in part because it may have a name that is very different than "Sierra Sneaker"?
Any additional dialogue or info from anyone would be of great interest. If we throw enough people at it, maybe we can find a pair at long last!
