Big Trouble in Little China - 1:24 PorkChop Express

Hello All!

I hope I'm posting this correctly. This is my first time uploading one of my projects to the RPF.

Taking Inspiration from members here and some other places I decided to give Jack's truck a shot myself. While not 100% screen accurate I feel like I've gotten pretty close. Starting out with the Italeri Freightliner FLC I knew the first challenge would be the sleeper. Using MatterControl I basically kit-bashed some stls to make a decent matching sleeper cab. Decided to use magnets to hold on the roof so I could detail out the inside.
Went through a couple decal sets before I found one I thought was the most accurate. Then it was adding lights, lengthening the exhaust stacks and some custom touches for the sleeper. Made a couple of Jacks for the drivers seat along with a companion sleeping in the back. I also filled the sleeper with some beer, girly, sports & motorcycle posters from the mid 80's that I could see Jack hanging. Even a 1986 calendar & a mini BTILC poster in there too! Added a privacy curtain cut from micro fabric cloth as well.

Found the 3 storms online and when I'm completly finished I plan on making this a diaroma scene with the alley way from the movie as a backdrop. I will post those completed pics here when I finsh. Hope you guys like the progress

You are really shaking the pillars of heaven with this one. So many questions... Where did you find the Packard swan on the radiator? Where did you find the files for the 3 storms? Would you be willing to share or sell your Jack figure file? I love the extras you put in the cab, maybe you need to make a hige sub sandwich for Jack to chow down on, LOL. I was going to try converting a Master Box figure and find someone who could do a decal for Jack's hat but I like your figure much better. He's dress just like at the end when they escape the Wing Kong Exchange.

A sub next to the six pack is a great idea!! I actually did a little STL blending to make my Jack. I bought a truck driver stl off of Cults3d that was kinda close. I thought for sure there would be a few Jack Burton 3d files out there but there's almost nothing! Even Kurt Russel files only had him as MacReady from The Thing. I finally found a statue from Hex3d which was a little cartoony but I knew at 1:24 it would be fine. I then used Mattercontrol which is free 3d splicing software to take Jacks head from the statue and put it on the truck driver and scale it all to the truck. I also had to use the same software to reposition the arms to hit the shifter and steering wheel. This isn't really the correct way to do it but I knew how to use that software so I probably made things harder for myself than if I used say Blender instead. If anyone here is a good 3d modeler I would be in the market for Jack with his duster and tall crowned Harley hat on like in the beginning & end of the flick! Maybe a version with a CB in his hand too!. Originally I wanted him outside the cab leaning up against the truck but I couldn't find the right file. As for the packard swan they sell that exact one on Cults3d too but they wanted $15 for just the file! I ended up just downloading a free swan file and streching it in the right direction. Again at 1:24 scale it's very hard to tell the difference. Idk, If my OCD takes hold maybe I'll drop $15 for the Packard Swan sometime in the future. lol

Swiftcoder, this is the figure I planned to convert into Jack, he even comes with a baseball cap. I just have to work out making a decal.

If you can manipulate your Jack file, you could porbably pull this pose off,

Water decals for the Harley logo can easily be printed if you access to an ink jet printer! Sheets just need a coat of clear acrylic spray after. It’s how I did the posters in the sleeper. I was actually gonna print some of the Fu Manchu tank top logos for the figures as well.

The only issue is inkjet water slides don’t print white as there is no white ink. So putting it over the black color ball cap will not work out. And the whole decal is slightly transparent, so the red would darken too.

I have tried an opaque white sheet water slide paper, but you need to really trim it well around edges, and in the end, it really just looks like cut out paper.

Ahh, yes, good point! I've had some luck printing things on a vinyl peel & stick material. Same stuff they do those sports fat head prints for walls. It's great material being repostionable but it has a slight texture to it that I'm not sure would work as such a small scale. I was actually going to use that for a Chinatown alleyway backdrop and road i plan on making for an acrylic case diorama scene with the storms. Currently still trying to find the right images.
