Bib Fortuna Costume Completed - Pics added post #85

Re: Bib Fortuna Costume

This costume should be completed soon, still tweaking gloves and other bits and pieces before I do a full makeup test and fitting.

Re: Bib Fortuna Costume

The finishing line is nearly in sight (well, for the mask that is)!!
Have applied the base colour with pax paint and put in some subtle shading with rubber mask grease. I applied a layer of KY jelly to give it a glossy sweat sheen.

Still haven't found the right contact lenses, most of the ones available are too red, the search continues.

Hoping to apply this baby sometime in the next week.

Dougie, could I give you a teeny bit of constructive criticism and a suggestion? Your head piece is brilliant and looks truly outstanding, but I'm not crazy at all about the dangly throat thingies. They just look too huge and kinda like corn dogs (do you guys have those awful things in Ireland?).

Anyway, I did a real crappy hack Bib Fortuna 2 years back for our big parade (made the whole thing, from mask to robes and armor, in 3 weeks) and obviously cut some serious corners, but one thing I think I nailed real well is what we called his throat gibblets. And the way I got them was so crazy simple and it made these really creepy appendages. All I did was take some standard nylon rope that you might use for a clothes line, tie a few knots in a 6-8" section (some just a single knot, some a double knot), then I just dipped it in my gallon tub of liquid latex and hung them up to drip dry. One dip was all it took and the results looked like a creepy flesh colored cat turd on a string! They were so gross and effective that people wouldn't even touch them:

Anyway, you might be totally done with your head piece and have no desire to revisit it, but I thought I would throw out some constructive criticism. Hope you aren't offended, because i really respect you work and absolutely love the costume.

Re: Bib Fortuna Costume

Cheers for the feedback Duck.

I'm not completed happy with them either, they do need a little more work.

TBH, the lekku need redoing but I probably won't get the chance to before October (Invasion Belfast).

Re: Bib Fortuna Costume

I think the lekku look great. I know from experience how insanely difficult it is to keep them from buckling and having folds/bends on the inner part of the curve (of which I had zero success fixing on mine!) and yours look pretty damn smooth and very real/creepy looking. Like I said, outside of that minor criticism on the throat thingies, I think the rest of the mask is top-notch and really capture the look and spirit of Bib.

Re: Bib Fortuna Costume

Hey, we're twins! (Except your whole mask is 100 times better than mine was!):

What are you doing for fingers? I just bought some cheap witch finger extensions, repainted them and hot glued them into the glove and they worked surprising well. Just a thought if you're running out of time.

Re: Bib Fortuna Costume

By the way, I can not WAIT to see the make-up test! If it's half as good as your Thade, it is gonna friggin' ROCK!

Re: Bib Fortuna Costume

A quick photoshop fix done by a mate, this is how it should look when applied!

God, yer killing me! I thought that was the test and I almost crapped my pants! DO THE TEST! DO THE TEST!

Looks killer 'shopped up like that, though.

Re: Bib Fortuna Costume

Should have the costume ready by next weekend for the all important photoshoot.

Re: Bib Fortuna Costume

Received the costume today from Alison & Jude http://www.clothearscostumes.com/. All I can say is WOW, the attention to detail and finish are amazing. Absolutely astounded at the quality and workmanship!

Hoping to get contacts before the weekend and then will to the all important tweaks before taking clearance pics.
First troop will hopefully be Armagh on the 29th!!

Still struggling to find the right boots, anyone know where I might get a pair resembling the ones below, in black, brown or grey?

Any Close matches I have found are womens and don't come in European size 10.

Re: Bib Fortuna Costume

Still struggling to find boots that will do the job.

In the meantime I've more or less finished the hands!

And sourced the perfect contacts without having to get them custom made, halleluia!!

Might be using these as a temp job for an upcoming troop.

Would say I'm 90% there, hope to test try next week. Waiting on delivery of a teeth making kit from monstermakers.
