Hi all,

I'm new to this forum, thought I'd share my progress with you. I am working on a Bib Fortuna costume, toyed around with several approaches and decided to go this route.

Started off by making a hard clay bust on a mannequin head.

Also made a clay lekku with a curve, both lekku are very similar in shape so I'll hopefully get away with just one sculpt.

The original plan was to make a plaster mould and then slush cast with latex.
But then I thought I'd try and do a latex baldcap type appliance seeing that there isn't a huge amount of detail in Bibs skin texture, mainly the actual bone structure itself. There are some skin folds above the eyes that I will apply with a separate cast at a later stage. Studying ref photos closely, his skin texture looks like painted on latex, as you can see from this photo.

Took the ears off and began coating the head with layers of liquid latex.
This is approx 12 layers of latex and powder alternating coats vertically and horizontally, twice as thick as your average baldcap but I will continue to apply layers (up to 40) over the raised callous like areas. Will smooth off in the final layers with latex/acetone mix.

I will apply the appliance over a standard baldcap and bulk it up in between with foam to retain the shape.

Next step was to make latex ears using the same method. His ears are almost human but kinda like cauliflower ears (rugby players will know what I mean) :lol.

Have started applying layers to the lekku sculpt, approx 15 layers needed to give it both strength and flexibilty, the curve in the sculpt will prevent it puckering in the middle. Will leave the wide end open to allow filling with foam and for easy applying to the head. The scar tissue at the front of his lekku will also be added separately.

The neck and danglies :lol will be made in the same way.
I have commissioned a costume maker in the UK to make his robes, gloves and leather apron. Will be using minion teeth from Dental Distortions and red (slightly pink) contacts.
Not sure about his fingers, might just use false nails.

That's where I'm at for now, Will update as it progresses.

Re: Bib Fortuna Costume

Can't wait to see this. I've never seen anyone do a Bib Fortuna costume before. He was always such a memorable character to me. I always wondered why I never saw one.

Re: Bib Fortuna Costume

Removed the latex cast from the headsculpt, it worked very well, just need to refine a couple of details. Waiting on delivery of baldcaps to take it a step further.

Half way through the first lekku, sould peel of the sculpt like a sock.

Will post pics in the next couple of days.

Re: Bib Fortuna Costume

Made some great progress over the last week.

The headpiece is 70% finished, needs to be attached to a baldcap and some detail added, holding it's shape really well already.

Next piece to be done was the neck (excluding the dangly bits), very thin allowing good movement.
Tissue thin edges for seamless blending. I will make the danglies out of hard clay and fill with beanbag beads to give them some weight. Looking at ref pics, Michael Carter had a cord around his neck attached to each one.

The first lekku or "lek", this is about as thick as your standard baldcap, packed out with filling.
It actually turned out a lot smoother than I thought, will need to add scar tissue to the front one.

So 1 more lek and 2 danglies and that wil be all the prosthetics done, will coat them in a combo of acrylic and prosaide to give a uniform base colour before I start painting with rubber mask grease.
