Best Stormtrooper Helmet?

wait a sec..
ok so if gino put a helmet on ebay i cant buy it?... cos im using ebay?
dont think so this " Rule ".. is ok.

Gino won't sell a helmet on eBay never, as well as all the respected stormie makers. That's how the rule works.

second ..dont buy from sheppertondesignstudios why ?.. i know the guy got some "issues"
about i did or i created the stormtropper blah blah blah... ( we dont need to go deep here, we know the problem )
but the final product is in "my opinion ".. on of the best helmets here in uk...

It's not one of the best helmets, the back is off, and the faceplate has lost detail, surely because of bad recasting.

so a question for you guys :
example . I casted my buckles ( jack sparrow costume ) from the original screen used costume
if one day i decide ( i cant but is an example ) sell copy of my buckles saying : "casted from the original screen used costume ".
and then , one of the prop maker from the movie is selling the same.. From the creators of the pirates of the caribbean , jack sparrow buckle from the same mold as the original..

whos buckles is better .. .. more screen accuracy?.. mine or they buckles?

It looks like you're talking about SDS? Anyway it all depends about whose cast is better, if the prop maker is doing it from the same moulds as the real one, if your moulds have shrinkage, if the moulds of the prop maker are not damaged, and, in the SDS chase, that you're not lying about saying you build the screen used buckle, over some other sculptors who did it and, specially, when one of them is not here anymore.

it was an example about gino and ebay..

Yep, I know, but what I wanted to say is that no one of the "good" stormie makers is going to sell anything on eBay. The only respected maker I know selling on eBay is ManofWar Studios, and he's not into stormie things, just Fett.

oky mateys..
take this as final answer savvy?
ANH or ESB: Gino V3 (he may not sell to someone he doesn't know though) http://www.therpf.com/f13/v2-gloss-h...ts-sale-86309/

ROTJ: JoeR and co (I can't remember what they are calling it ATM) http://www.therpf.com/f24/rotj-storm...armour-106628/

If you just want something more affordable to troop in go for AP (authentic props) AKA ABS80 on FISD For Sale or Trade - Personal Items - First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment You can ask for him here. Or sometimes they pop up for sale there.

thanks everybody for the help !
now i need to save some Gold Doublons ...

cheers

i like the direction that this thread took. :thumbsup

bottom line is that the question is really too subjective to ask a group of stormtrooper helmet fans on the internet. we all have different tastes and it's completely up to you as to what your tastes are.

a better question would be to ask for a list of helmet makers with image reference for each maker, but that's what the search function is for... and no one is going to compile a list like that except jez, and his website has been linked in this thread already :)
in the past few months we saw three great helmets walk through our doors here and they're all great in their own way. pick one. send a pm and start a friendship with a helmet maker.

personally, i'm not as concerned with screen accuracy as most. i want my helmet to not look as wonky as some of those screen stormies and to have cleanly cut eyes and straight brow trim and what not....

i've always thought about the ANH stormies grabbing their helmets from the bin and the one guy getting stuck with the high brow helmet and getting pissed about it.... maybe he switched it with his bunk mate's helmet one night and it gets passed around the barracks for awhile.

i wouldn't wanna be the guy who got stuck with the high brow helmet.:lol

No. Just my honest opinion bud.

There are people to steer clear of though.

Again check starwarshelmets.com for really good veiws of the real thing and compare to the options that have been given.

Decide for yourself what is right for you and how much work you want to put into it.

Is ACTUAL screen accuracy important to you?

Or do you want it to look like it would if it were a perfect symmetrical helmet? (the eFX bucket would do the trick here)

Or do you want something a bit in between? Not totally assymetrical and warty/bumpy but still derived from a real helmet. ie "cleaned up" (for this AP is a good option)

Like dreaminspired said, it really is up to you. All we can do is give you opinions.

Trust me there are a lot of conflicting opinions and several members are probably biting there tounges right now! :lol

Again take a look at the options out there. Figure out what suits your needs. :thumbsup

You have been given some sound advice. Just to let you know I will have a new ANH coming out soon from the Brian R lineage. It will be a slightly cleaner sharper version of the one Gino sells as I had a very old mould to work from that wasn't in the best condition and I've been working on it every minute of every day for a while.... No it probably won't be the best most screen accurate but it will be nice and sharp and affordable. It will be available in HIPS ABS and PP/HDPE.....:love I will start another thread specifically for this helmet when the proto is ready for show. Please don't ask for sale questions as this is the wrong section and I don't want another warning from admin...:lol

I love to see it:thumbsup Sure they are one of the most accurate ones!

Yes, I would very much love to hear how that helmet is not just another one of the many 'hobby unauthorized' recast helmets out there.

Gino as you with me, I'm not even going to go there so back off. It's legit and that's all you need to know. Now stop baiting..........again :rolleyes

I have been reading all the answers.... :)

and i think that we still do not know if he will use it for trooping or not... and maybe that could make a big difference..... :wacko

Well. That is tricky too I guess. There are lots of techniques for making say, thin styrene more durable. For instance e-6000 soaked Tshirt material. Or there is a thread right here about a seeminly SUPER sturdy tech. http://www.therpf.com/f24/heavy-duty-helmet-sandtrooper-105361/

It really comes down to personal preference. And how much additional work you want to put into it. But keep in mind most thin styrene helmets will break if dropped just right. Without additional internal support that is. But you can break thick ABS if you try hard enough. (it is all repairable though!)

The new CFO ANH sounds like a promising alternative for an affordable yet really sharp helmet Sskunky! :) :thumbsup

Gino, as mentioned several times - it is not up to YOU to decide what is or is not "authorized"

I find it amazing that you continue to push this issue, especially when you were so spectacularly caught out recently over your fake "Original mould" TIE Pilot helmet! :thumbsdown

Turning to the point in question, as mentioned by others perhaps the best place to start would be to look through the various stormtrooper helmets and armour on offer on my site. Then balance this against other criteria such as price, size, availability and customer service. The latter point is extremely important since (as many in the past have found), there is no point finding your preferred supplier is actually a con man who consistently fails to deliver. Again if your buying from ebay, insist and ensure the item is "in hand/ready to go" - you're not buying a space in a queue for it to be manufactured!

Cheers

Looking forward to pics, Sskunky. Also, I have to echo Jez there. Don't buy vaporware. If it isn't ready to be bought, don't give your money. There have been too many sad stories of people sending out hundreds of dollars on vaporware that they never see.
