BELLATRIX LESTRANGE - Harry Potter

Hey everyone. I thought I would start this thread for anyone who is interested in doing a Bellatrix Lestrange costume
and would like some help, or would just like to show their progress or the work that they've done.
I'll start this thread out with some photo reference of the infamous death eater and her main costume,
and later I'll post some on the work that I've done.

Here are shots of the costume that I've done.
It's not exactly screen accurate but it's what I have.
My corset is not as structured as it could be but I'm satisfied with it.
Also my gromets in the sleeves were probably unnecessary but they're there.
I'm working on a more screen accurate wand.
The bird skull necklace is also hand made.

I'm working on this costume at the moment but I'm using a heavier weight leather for the corset so it will support itself.

I bought a light textured wool crepe for the dress and will be stenciling the swirl design on it.

i always love this one
you should remake the corset from heavy black leather like the movie one
that way it wouldn't crumple so much
and it would be mega hard core ^^

That's the only part of the cosutme that i'm really not in love with, but it was also a last minute put together. I've just got to find the right leather and then I'll be set.

you're an amazing bellatrix :) Working on a death eater outfit myself, but in need of some good HQ ref pics :( only find small ones on the internet :(

Awesome Bellatrix!

I had planned on doing this outfit a few years ago, but never got farther than buying some black fabric to play around with, and the official wand and death eater mask.

There was one gal who had made the costume back then who had done a really great job on the corset out of leather...her site might still come up with a bit of searching.

The amount of detail on the costume is crazy. I'm not sure if I could find something with that swirl pattern on it close enough to satisfy me. I plan on getting it embroidered if I ever got around to doing it.

The necklace and boots were two things I was having a hard time finding. Your homemade necklace is great. I don't know why Noble Collection still hasn't come out with her necklace...I still keep hoping they will.

That looks great! Are you going to wear it when the movie comes out?

most definitely. it will be crazy. i am so stoked for the coming films... i could vomit.

and thanks for the leather reference.

i probably wont be able to work on this costume again soon, because I really need to get working on my red queen one, but whenever I get the chance to get back to it I will post photos.

Ah, I love that there's a thread just for Bellatrix!

I finished the construction on mine back in March, but I've brought her back out to finish details like painting and embroidery before Dragon*Con. I also need to go out and get a proper photoshoot done. I just don't have enough full-length shots of the costume.

This group of pictures were taken back in March with the Group That Shall Not Be Named in NYC. Since this shoot, I've picked up more accurate jewelry. At some point, I'll need to get a better wig, but that ain't happening this year. ;)

I'm really proud of the corset and wand holster. It was my first foray into working with leather, and wasn't quite as scary as I was afraid it was going to be!

I've also been eyeing the costume she's got in Deathly Hallows (the polyjuice scene). I love the tooled/cutout leather corset, and the tiny silver crow's head buttons... And of course, the coat!

Is it wrong to say-you are a queen, and I want you :p lol, excellent work!! my favorite character too :) (Feels about 14 again) bwaha

really nice Bellatrix costume!!! Have you considered doing the leather coat that she wears at the beginning of the Half Blood Prince?

Wow macbeemer, your Bellatrix is so awesome! Definitely the best I've seen...you've really made the effort to get the details down well. The corset looks great and I love that you used a wig...so few people do on some outfits and part of this outfit really is her whacked out crazy hair.

Hope to see this outfit at D*C!

Great costumes! Both of you.
Love anything HBC does.

@Lucilleatrix, I could make a few recommendations on the corset. More specific ones that is than telling you to buy heavy black leather from tandy.

I would say 6oz veg tan would be ideal. Tandy often has sales on their 4 and 6 oz single shoulders. Undyed, so you'll have to do that yourself, but that's easy. PM me if you'd like more info. Happy to help. I also have a great method for patterning this.

Thank you, Darth Mule and Stuart88!

Elvenguard18 - I ALMOST did that costume instead of this one! I liked that it had a bit of color in it, and of course, that gorgeous coat. Maybe in the future... But it's looking like she's got at least 2 brand spanking new costumes for Deathly Hallows, and I think I want to do her polyjuiced Hermione look first. :)

scruffyrebel - Thank you so much! Yeah, I think I have costume-related OCD... I get pretty obsessed with getting things just so. and lol! I have to use a wig. I've got short choppy hair, and it just wouldn't be Bellatrix without the crazy hair. And hey- if you see me wandering around aimlessly at D*C on Sunday, please do say hi!

Lucilleatrix - I ended up using an 8oz veg tanned leather that I got on eBay, and loved it. I think 4oz might be a weeee bit too lightweight. I used my friend Julie's method of tooling and molding, with some slight modifications, and was really happy with the result.

Oops! I meant to suggest 6oz (edited). You're right about 4 oz being a bit light. Great for the corset, but wouldn't take the tooling well. 8-9 oz is belt weight leather and seems like it would make a very heavy piece. Though yours looks fantastic. It also looks lighter than 8 oz in the pics, but those can be deceiving.
