BELLATRIX LESTRANGE - Harry Potter

Elvenguard18 - I ALMOST did that costume instead of this one! I liked that it had a bit of color in it, and of course, that gorgeous coat. Maybe in the future... But it's looking like she's got at least 2 brand spanking new costumes for Deathly Hallows, and I think I want to do her polyjuiced Hermione look first. :)

I look forward to seeing some pics if you do the costume.

Haha. I didn't want to contradict you directly, because I'm still such a newbie when it comes to leather work.

The reason I went with the heavier 8oz was because I did end up boiling the leather for a hot second, and if it did shrink, I didn't want it to get too thin. Plus, it gave the tooled tracks a nice deep look to them.

No worries. Besides, you got me to notice a typo. rather give the right info than the wrong.

Sunday is Bellatrix day huh? Well, if Dracula (92' Coppola) comes up asking for a pic don't be surprised.

Elvenguard13 - oh absolutely! You can count on it.

Darth Mule - Excellent! My favorite Dracula! I look forward to it. :D

Mmm, Bellatrix; Crazy Beautiful!
But so are you Lucilleatrix!
Let out the lacings on your shoulders and add a bit of volume in the skirt! You'll have the Muggles running and the Wizards fawning (me included!).

Voldemort is on that list of costumes I'd like to do one day, but will probably not unless I somehow miraculously get through all the other things that I want to do. The robe should be cake. The makeup on the other hand...

I am addicted to making wands here is my trixie wand, made from walnut, about 13" from tip straight across to to handle. Enjoy! My wife was blown away by your costume!! Awesome!!!

I saw these on flickr earlier when I was searching for D*C pictures! What a stunning wand. Well done!

Looks fantastic! Was there ever any plans to embroider the curly qs, or were they painted on the movie costume?

Her costume has a combination of painted and embroidered swirls. Most of them are painted/printed and faded. The embroidered patches are on her bust, hips, shoulders and wrists, with a couple smatterings on her lower skirt.

I figured It would be an easy embroidery job, considering the simplicity of the design, but then I started measuring out the placement and matching the pattern of embroidery to get it as close to screen accurate as possible... I think I've put at least 10 hours into what I have so far, and I'm maybe about 1/3 done.

The most annoying/relieving part is that the costume dept. wasn't consistent about the swirls. The costume of hers that went on tour had a completely different pattern than the one seen in all the promos, which in turn is slightly different from the onscreen one... etc etc. It's a ***** when going for screen-accuracy, but at least if I'm off, I can blame it on the fact that the wardrobe was, too. ;)

I'm disappointed that I missed this at Dragon Con. But things get crazy there and you often end up missing alot of stuff you planned on catching.
I think I walked by you Friday morning and meant to stop and introduce myself and see when you were planning on doing Bella, but I was a little slow due to the activities of the previous evening, and let the moment pass and get swallowed up in the crowd.

Aw, sad! Yeah, Dragon Con is rough that way. So much to do, so little time, and so many people! Well, there's always next year. I was hoping to add her Polyjuiced "Deathly Hallows" costume to my list for next year's D*C costumes, but I already have about 4 new things I want to do (one of which is a giant and tedious build), so she's getting put on the back burner for now. Instead, I'm going to focus on finishing the rest of the painting & embroidery. It never ends.

Macbeemer - wow, you've done an amazing job. That's a really stunning costume and the attention to detail is superb. Congrats!

Thank you so much, kessa!

Well, I went out with the NYC HP group again this past weekend. This time we did a couple photoshoots in the incredible and gorgeous Sleepy Hollow! I'm still waiting for the professional pictures to come back, but luckily, lots of people brought their own cameras.

I'm STILL not finished with the embroidery. Work and life keep pushing Bella to the background. Maybe by the premiere of DH1?
