Battlestar Galactica 2003 scratch build

OK, so I was going to leave the whole plates that are not armor on the PODS smooth and then I realized with the rest of the ship with greeblies between the ribs I had to do something with the flight pods. I found this scale stonewall looking sheet at the hobby shop and thought that it might work so I cut a bunch of pieces lay them in there without gluing them to see how it would look. I think it looks OK and probably will look better once paint is on it but my wise friends I seek your opinions and approval before I commit to it

Well this is one end of it, clearly they need an extra resistor to bring down the brightness but it looks like it’s gonna work out OK

Did a bank of viper launch tube openings and added a resistor to the circuit for the red maker lamps
I’m tellin ya fellas, these flight pods are the most difficult part of this. At least when I go to do the starboard pod I will have worked out all the challenges and hopefully that one will go easier

This is looking awesome. Love the letters, you are a patient man. For those armor sections I would look into sheets that are brick and ad cuts and maybe some random sized squares and rectangles on top of that. Sounds time consuming, but you have made such a great model so far,I think (only my opinion) you need more uniform plates for th skin. Keep making cool stuff!

Yeah, not sure myself, but looks like you have a good amount

That is a lot of dedication and patient duplication
Well I’m sure you noticed they’re not all precisely the same size but I doubt anyone will be looking that close. If I’d had my wits about me I’d have made a bunch of triangle tubes a half inch long and put a fiber optic in each one so there would be some ambient light…maybe next time

OK so I got the entry arch figured out and I was able to add the landing lights to the tail end of the deck. I put a flashing LED in that one

You guys want to hear something cool? So I joined a Facebook group that’s called Battlestar Galactica scale modelers and I’ve been posting this stuff there too. So this morning I get a friend request from a guy name Eric Chu, and I’m like who is Eric Chou? So I clicked on him and it looked as though he worked on the Battlestar Galactica TV show the newer one and I thought yeah cool so I accepted his friend request.
So today I’m in the basement and I’m working on the Galactica and I get this Facebook message from this Eric Chu, turns out this is the guy that designed the Galactica and the base stars for the 2003 TV show. So I’m thinking wow this is terrific, he’s impressed with my work, etc. etc. and we’re chatting for 20 minutes or so and I accidentally hit the call button and the guy picks up! So we’re doing a Facebook FaceTime talk for like another 20 minutes about the ship this and that. Super cool down to earth guy, asked me a lot of questions I asked him a lot of questions. Anyway I just thought I’d share that because it was a real mind blowing thing.

Well I’m almost done with this flight pod, I lost connection on a couple of my smd’s‘s after I buttoned up all the wires, well at least a couple of them still work. I started hand painting flat black for my light blocking and I’m glad I didn’t do it before I put all the arches on for the Viper launch tubes because the problem of not illuminating them ahead of time seems to have taken care of itself
