Batsuit build (Avengers style) Cowl Pics Page 2!

This is amazing work! Every time I see a thread like this is inspires me to make my own cowl, I can never quite find the courage to go for it though :/

I'd like to know a few things though:

1) The dummy that the cowl is sculpted onto, is that a cast of yourself, or just a half bodied mannequin?

2) This is something that's been bugging me for a while now, when you made your gauntlets, how do they attach/do up? I made a Dark Knight costume a while back for a work fancy dress day thing for Comic Relief, but I ran out of time and couldn't do the gauntlets in any way that I was happy with. I simply stuck Velcro onto each 'strap' and overlapped them :/ So yeah, just how? :p

Thanks for the compliments! Sorry for only replying now but I hadn't noticed that people were still checking this thread out!

I used a half body mannequin which is a HUGE regret for me. It made guessing measurements much harder and I ended up with a cowl that didn't fit very well so I wouldn't recommend using one. You can actually see in the photos where I've sculpted heaps of space under the chin to accommodate my face opposed to the tiny face of my mannequin. Also the neck was too short so the cowl doesn't reach my shoulders :( so I'm currently sculpting a new neckless cowl while also looking into making a proper cast of my own head for future sculpts.

As for my gauntlets, they don't actually open. I slip my hands in and out of them VERY carefully. It's very tight and I've popped one gauntlet open at the wrist once but luckily it was only where it was glued. So a little more glue and it was fine!
If this becomes a problem I'll probably glue some velcro strips to the underside to hold them shut.

Don't be discouraged! If you ever decide to jump into it, your first try may not be what you were hoping for (mine certainly wasn't and neither was the second!) but there are tons of people around here willing to help you along with advice and I'm sure they'd love to see another rendition of the cowl as well! I always do :)

Dude.....Dude......I really like where this is going. I love the cowl and wish I had those skills to make one!

Cheers dude :) I hope to have more time to update you guys on this soon. Why don't you give it a go? It could turn out awesome :)

I really like this idea! I'm currently working on a sort-of TDK styled Batman Beyond build, and it's funny cause I seriously thought about using a Captain America costume as a base; total coincidence by the way, I have never seen that photoshopped picture before (which is pretty cool by the way). I decided against this though because of the ridiculous price and I had no way of getting my hands on one to feel the quality of the material before purchasing it.

Just my two cents, I considered using a wetsuit as a base too, but I heard from alot of people that wetsuits can get very warm and uncomfortable at times, even if vented areas are cut out of it.

So, I decided on a pair of men's work coveralls. The ones I got are made of a durable cotton twill that is sort of like canvas, and they don't actually heat me up all that much. I plan to get them tailored to fit closer to my body and look more like a superhero suit, and then I'll dye them black.

So yeah, I'd recommend that route if you haven't already started with a wetsuit yet. Your choice though. Here's a link to the ones I got:

Yeah heat has been an issue that i've been thinking about so these coveralls look like a wicked idea! Was gonna buy some to see what i could do with them but turns out they don't ship to New Zealand from the site you posted :( I'll have a hunt around for others. Cheers for the idea :)
