I've seen a really cool picture online somewhere of the cap's suit from the avengers all recoloured to make what looks like a pretty badass batsuit.

I was wondering if anybody knew where I could get my hands on a decent cap suit and possibly get some tips on how I could go about recolouring it as well?

Thanks guys! :D

Re: Captain America / Batman suit help!

This is probably your best shot at a pre-made Cap suit. I think one or two people from this site have purchased it at least as a starting point for their Cap costumes. The quality leaves a something to be desired, but on the flip side, you are getting the full costume in something better than just a mesh sleeve (like most cheaper Halloween costumes). You don't have to buy it from there, I've seen it numerous other places, just do some searching using roughly the same text as the item's listing name.

As for coloring, personally I wouldn't know where to start. But here's my uninformed guess at how to go about it. I would remove the star detail, bleach the entire thing and then dye it grey. After that, I would cut new fabric or mold new details for each of the black parts, and sew them on myself. (Again, the above is my guess as to how to go about it.)

It's a cool photoshop job. If you pull it off, I'd love to see it.

Hey thanks for the reply!

That does look like the best option for this project but I'm not sure if I can afford a price like that unfortunately.

I might try and work this into a foam suit build instead.

Re: Captain America / Batman suit help!

The "elite" costumes they have come out with, are actually not as bad compared to the other ones out there that you can buy, looking at the pics.

the price though..wow.
I hope those things are durable for that price tag.

Re: Captain America / Batman suit help!

I'd love to see someone go for this, seeing hat pic it looks frikkin awesome :D I think the Arkham cowl would go wonderfully with that.

Re: Captain America / Batman suit help!

I should have clarified in my above post: I DO NOT endorse spending that much money on that costume. The price is a punch in the gut, and I doubt it is worth that kind of money.

As for what material was used on the original, I couldn't tell ya and there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer. But after checking out The RPF's Captain America gallery and taking a close look at some of the hi-res photos there, the grain looks like a canvas-type material, most likely washed several times to loosen/soften it for wear.

I suggest checking out the gallery yourself, and see if you can find a material that looks like what is pictured there.

Re: Captain America / Batman suit help!

Yeah I was thinking some kind of soft canvas. I wish I knew how to sew. I'd be all over this right away :(

This will be a difficult project.

Sewing isn't as difficult as a lot of people make it out to be. You could get buy pretty much with a reinforced straight stitch (as in you go over the area twice), and if you're sewing through a rather soft material any $100 beginner machine out there will be able to handle it or I'm pretty sure you probably know someone with a machine and could show you the basics. Plus... Youtube :p

I really hope you do it, I feel like seeing this, the suit almost fits Batman better :b Good luck, I really hope you can get this finished!

Re: Captain America / Batman suit help!

Yes! Go for it! And if you find a good material, do share! I've been shopping around for that kind of material for a number of costumes.

Re: Captain America / Batman suit help!

I suggest looking for all the captain america threads here, I'm sure there's a lot of information already on here about types of fabrics. For a cheaper idea I've toyed with, by a jacket that matches how the costume looks and fits, to use as a base, then just sew on other fabric in a patter to make it look authentic. be sure to add on a zipper cover.

Also I made this the other day and feel like showing off:

Re: Captain America / Batman suit help!

I am working on Avengers Cap as well, but there is no real pattern out there, so doing it myself. As for the fabric, I am also using a canvas that has been washed to soften it. Honestly, sometimes the best thing is to make the pattern yourself-not always easy, I admit, but you find that you get more like what you want than not. Good luck!

Re: Captain America / Batman suit help!

Ryan Jenkins on Facenook has a superb Cap outfit he made, may be worth looking him up.

Thanks dude! Super helpful :D your thread gives me hope lol

Re: Captain America / Batman suit help!

So I've just bought my canvas and am about to buy a cheap wetsuit to use as an undersuit.

The plan is to cut and hem each grey panel from the canvas and then glue them onto the undersuit. The undersuit is totally black so I'll be leaving it showing in the places that are black in the image.

Sound good? Like always, any advice is more than welcome :)

Re: Captain America / Batman suit help!

Here's an update:

Made both gauntlets now and picked up a nice pair of gloves to go with them. Only noticed after taking the photo that the left gauntlet is slightly different from the original on the right so might be remaking that. Also, almost finished the belt. I Just need to attach the buckle.

I've also attached a pic of my final suit design for the upper body as I've decided to deviate from the source image a bit. Please forgive the lined paper and fluoro belt lol
