Hello everyone - firstly just wanted to say thank you to those that have assisted me so far, its much appreciated.

I am due to start building the Returns style chest piece for my (ameteur) Batman costume build but I wanted to try and see if anyone else has built one from scratch usign the EVA foam/ gym mats technique and if so do they have any tips?

I figured as the Returns armour is mostly straight lines and smooth curves I should be able to pull it off quite easily compared to doing a full on Arkham suit or alike. I dont know.. as I say its a first attempt in my life of doing this.

One more thing - has anyone used a neoprene wetsuit and bonded foam too it? If so best ways to do this?

I was also wondering if anyone can help me with information on how to carve detail into the foam easily? I heard about using a heat pen or something? Any guidanceon what exctly to use would treally help me.

Also any general tips would be appreciated. I been researching this for agood 6 months now but still need help :-0

Thanks in advance,

Stephen

I would stay away from a wet suit as they hold the heat in and can cause issues. If your using foam it should be light weight and ok to glue one black spandex suit

I agree with kapow7, I just recently wore my batman returns costume made of urethane on neoprene to a convention, and I when I took it off, the wetsuit was totally drenched in sweat.

Ah thanks for this information Kapow - I really appreciate it. I never made anything before like this, let alone used a wetsuit but I was about to order one next week or so ..then read what you said.. thanks for that :)

ill have a look and see what spandex I can get. I want to retain that muscular look but I figure the foam pieces will cling well to the spandex and should look good. Im a failrly big guy so I think it should look ok.

Need any help just shot me a email at kapowseven@gmail.com and I will help where I can

Hi Kapow - Thank you so much I really do appreciate that - I feel with a project of this size any contact names I can get from people like yourself who specialise in Batman will really help.

Im due to start construction of the chest armour next month (after pay day!!) so thats the next part.

As it stands, Im building all the armour parts from EVA floor mats but taking my time with each element before finally piecing it together.

Im guessing the piecing toether is going to be tricky although I have been experementing with glues and foam, I found this "Locite Hybrid Glue" which is flexible and so far seems to bond eva really well. Its a bit pricey at £6 -8 a bottle but I managed to get a job lot on ebay for the price of one!

Thanks again, Ill keep you all posted as it goes...

Here are some shots of where I am at currently... The ab plate is totally rough.. not finshed at all yet. Gauntlets and gloves are on their first coat of plasti dip. 20140711_105851.jpg20140711_105859.jpg20140711_105902.jpg20140711_105910.jpg
