Batman Red Hood UK

hey dude, do you just resin? or both resin and fibreglass?
I was thinking about it when I was doing 2nd build and redooing the lining in 1st helmet.
Sometimetimes(maybe its me) the fibreglass matt doesn't sit right inside helmet after drying and I end up with bubbles.
Going to print 2nd version off again this week and take my time. I still have those pics to send you I promised.
Last wk and the wkend were just hectic, so apologies for delay

mcoatsey, if you use only resin the helmet will remain brittle. The fiberglass matt or cloth is what adds the strength. I'd hate to see you do an awesome piece and it just break apart on you. Do the extra step, it's well worth it albeit a pain in the butt:)
Best of luck..

Thanks for the tip, appreciate the advice.
I have always fibreglassed before, just got me thinking thats all. The fibreglass tissue is awful. Always used the matt.
Next question I guess, Is the fibreglass cloth better than matt?

I have a softley spoken british accent & I studied Keysi Fighting Method(martial art used in Batman begins) for 2yrs, will that do? LOL

Mccoatsey - I use to do fiberglass matting also in my helmets and know what you are talking about. I 've changed it slightly and have been resining the outside then inside of the helmet to harden and keep the shape. Then instead of figerglass matt I have been slush casting with urethane resin from Smooth On. The smooth cast 65D is excellent stuff. It has a little flex to it, but not much and is very strong. When I roto cast it inside, it makes it much smoother then fiberglass matt. You might want to give it a try. This method works for me plus it doesn't smell as bad as fiberlgass resin.

thanks Blackkaos, I'll have to see what brands we have here in the UK, as you chaps in the USA have different makes. I will try this on my 2nd attempt at REDHOOD V2.0 :)

Blackkaos, I may have to try that as well..
Mcoatsey, I've found that fiberglass cloth and matt both work well just when layering it the matt interweaves a bit to make it a little more rigid and the cloth just overlaps the previously layed cloth, giving a tiny bit of flexibility. I hope this helps.

Best of luck. Your first shot was really good so I can't wait to see your new ones. Take progress pics on both methods, I'm sure everyone would love to see that as well as your opinions on both methods..

I actually got this idea from a guy off youtube and kinda change it a little. You have to put scotch tape over any small gaps in the pep file so the urethane won't leak but after the first two layers you can remove the scotch tap which will peal right off.

Mcoatsey, check out smooth on's website smooth-on.com not sure if they ship internationally or how much it would cost. The product is a little expensive but well worth it. I've purchased cheaper priced urethane resin and trust me, you can tell a difference.

Blackkaos sells the files at a very low fee and I guarantee you won't be disappointed. I've purchased a few and am extremely happy with them and plan to buy more in the future..

I've been away for a while, but the costume has evolved a touch more. I will add more this week to bring my progressions up to date
