I didn't see this one coming...

Available later this year, no price given. Looks like it has opening pouches/tubes and a folding batarang. Interesting that the pouch flaps hinge on the front edge rather than the rear, as with the higher end replicas.

Is that leather or vinyl? Can't tell...

There's a very vague write-up on mattycollector.com.

Epic Creations™ DC Classic TV Series Batman™ Utility Belt

No joke… if you’re going to vanquish villains and save Gotham City, you’ll need a groovy utility belt just like the one worn by Batman™ in the 1960s television series! Created with Warner Bros. Entertainment and designed to fit adults, the 43” belt is authentically styled and includes four pouches that open from the bottom, just like they did on the show. It also features four opening tubes and a 12” blue plastic Batarang that folds up neatly for storage allowing hands-free crime fighting.

I follow some of the Mattel collector stuff (usually their Masters Of The Universe action figures). They do nice work in general terms, but they don't really push the envelope in terms of build quality; I would bet it's almost certainly a synthetic, I don't think that particular company would allot for the cost of leather.

I think the price is listed as $110. For the average fan/collector it may be good enough, but for a diehard fan it isn't very accurate at all. I spent about $160 making mine using blueprints taken from the original. Looks a lot better than than this and its more accurate.

It isn't even made like the original belt. I seriously doubt they even looked at a SCREENUSED belt. Everything about it is just off.

My recommendation is to pass on it if you are seriously interested. There are better fan made stuff.

This is a good example of a prop that needed to be idealized before offering it up to the straights. Let's face it, The originals were craptacular and all but the average collector does need something that fits in their 'mind's-eye' interpretation of what the prop should look like in the real world. Some nice compromises here without completely sacrificing the spirit of the prop. :thumbsup

Yes, exactly. If they tried selling a belt whose pouches were yellow painted wood blocks, I doubt their typical customer would be pleased or understanding upon receipt. I made one with that technique and while it looks nice I wouldn't wear it with a costume for fear of damaging it (thus I made a second with pleather covered wood blocks and a functional key pouch to wear).

Something with a batarang and opening pouches/tubes is a fair value at that price, even if you don't get leather. Hopefully the material is not overly flimsy. I'm not sure if opening tubes have ever been available before, and for opening pouches you need to shell out a chunk of money for the CY or CW belts (which are certainly worth said chunk). It sets out what it should do - look nice on a shelf or on a costume, with some nice functionality added... Even if it means some idealization when compared to the originals.

The belt is on sale today for $125.

Here's a link with a video review and photos of a belt:

The tubes appear to be unpainted yellow plastic. Which of course means their color is slightly different from the surrounding pleather. They also have large mounting spikes going through the cavity rendering the opening ends entirely pointless. Eugh. Although, not much would have fit in there anyway.

Anyone pick one of these up? Is there anything that makes it rise above an "ok" replica?
