Bandai X-wing 1/72, Red Leader

Hello! Here is my attempt at making Red Leader as shown in ANH. I did my best at this scale but I'm sure I missed a few scrapes and damage per the reference photos I used. Also, for fun and as a challenge, I didn't use any airbrush either - this is all rattle can, topical, weathering pigments, oils, marker etc. Thanks for looking!

Looks very legit to me!! Very nicely done, I especially love the weathering on it! Don't worry if you "missed a few scrapes"; I certainly cannot tell. :)

Great job!!

Just saw this on Reddit. Can't believe I have gone all these years not knowing that they could be mounted from behind like this. Did you modify it in any way, or just remove the cover and it's good to go?

Thanks! Great question, I certainly didn't know either but I was fiddling around with the stand, and discovered that once you pop off the back cover/access panel on the back of the x-wing, the peg for the stand fits nicely. I have no idea if this was intended. I don't think it was as the angles of the display stand forced me to display the x-wing at a severely upward angle and I had to add some weight to the front the stand so it wasn't top heavy. I think I'll change my stand so I can display it better, but still use the method from behind as the standard method with the removable panel underneath the fuselage is a bit hard to remove if u change your mind later.

Excellent work.

It is amazing what can be done without an airbrush, especially at these smaller scales.
I've done similar myself using just rattle cans
Thanks Analyzer! Yeah, Tamiya rattle cans always go on smooth for me and then I had lots of fine control for the weathering aspect. For my 1/48 moving edition X-wing I'm sure I'll do some airbrush work when I tackle that.

Thank you for the suggestion! This just helped me rescue my 1/72 F-14 project! :D
