Bandai release schedule

I'd hold off on the etch, we don't know yet how the existing sets will fit on the Bandai. Give the aftermarket guys a chance to come up with something.

Any ideas on where us poor Europeans could purchase? I normally go straight from Japan on the regular kits, but this being so expensive is gonna have a hell of a customs mark-up :(

I'm a little irked they would announce this kit as Summer 2017, but not give a release date. Leaving us hanging.

They could've said Summer 2018 for a tie-in to the Han Solo movie and left us hanging for an entire year. This is a shorter time frame that Round2 gave when they announced the Eagle.

I really don't understand the way they're marketing this thing...
Say they make 2,000 of these, and sell them for $400 apiece.
Great, they've made $800,000, but not everyone who wanted one got one.
Now say they make a million of these, and sell them for $150 apiece.
Now they've made $150,000,000, and everyone who wanted one got one.
I know they have math in Japan... what am I missing here?
What does Bandai stand to gain - how do they intend to profit - by making a limited run of these and pricing them so that most people can't even afford them?
I'm really angry about this now.
I've been waiting for this news for 2 years, and instead of Bandai saying "Here's your Falcon, Ax!" they're saying "LOL! You can't have one!"

Well....they're following Nintendo's lead on "leaving them wanting more"

Is everyone sure that the site that is selling these in the US can actually get this? I always thought these limited edition items were strictly for Bandai's online store only which in turn only sold to Japan. Just curious.

Limited Edition is marketing. It will be re-boxed and offered in other versions in time. Maybe without electronics, a Ep V, IV edition, Sequal edition, Han Solo movie edition, etc.

...if it's really limited and a japan-web-exclusive, probably even limited to1 per customer, then it is very likely that they come away empty-handed... The funniest thing is, you can even order an amount of 24 Falcons on this page - very tasty for the vultures which just wait to cast this kit in gold for Ebay-resellings :) The chances are higher to get it, if you know someone, who lives in japan - i would rather try to go this way, than to place an order on a site with the chance to get a "sorry, we can't get it"-e-mail at a time, when it is not possible anymore to try something else...

I highly doubt this site is offering pre-orders without having some sort of deal worked out with Bandai somewhere or doesn't have someone to get them from. Because they did stop pre-orders for a short time & later started offering pre-orders again. I assume this happened because they well surpassed the amount they were expecting to get pre-ordered and then were able to assure getting more from Bandai.

"Sure", no, but from what everyone had said about them and being a Gundam distributer I imagine they know what they're talking about. Their customer service was fantastic. I emailed them asking if I could apply a 10% discount code after my purchase and they got back to me in less than an hour and honored the discount for me. Good way of instilling my faith in them.

I'm convinced from Gentle Giant's mini busts exclusives, that Lucasfilm has a clause in their contracts that they are obligated to have at least one product that will completely P*** off a bunch of fans. The next one will be a Blockade Runner that is ridiculously small and is limited to Japan.

Bandai dont make that amount though, those are Retail prices, they go from Bandai / maybe big distributors / final end sellers all of which take a cut and need to pay their own over heads/taxes before making a profit. Also take into account Bandai obviously dont just make these for nothing. The investment in R&D in hours is Huge, theres also Kit Boxes and Art work to make, instructions to design, wholesale Packaging, Lighting, Mold making equipment and operators, Factory usage like maintenace on the robotic machines, computers, lighting, heating, staff training. Plus local Gov. taxes will be huge on their main building. All the employees need to be paid, plus maybe pension contributions and all this before making a profit, which they need to re-invest for future equipment & technology or pay tax on it. Oh and lets not forget Bandai dont make the Star Wars films, they have to get a License from Disney and im guessing that isnt cheap, after paying $4 Billion for Star Wars its only fair Disney make a bit too.

I think at just over £300 Bandai's Perfect Grade Falcon model kit, with Lighting and a big Stand is good value. I can really enjoy building and painting this awesome model, then enjoy and treasure it for the rest of my life. This is probably the closest ill ever get to owning the Studio Scale model. Its a work of Art, made by a company that really genuinely takes great pride and enjoyment in making the best Star Wars Model Kits ever made.

You say "What does Bandai stand to gain - how do they intend to profit - by making a limited run of these and pricing them so that most people can't even afford them", well thats working great for companies like Ferrari, some people want to collect Exclusive Special Objects that not everyone else has. Also maybe Bandai just made this for fun and not profit, so want a guaranteed return. I hope Bandai make a good profit, i think they deserve too. Im extremely gratefull to them for investing in this model. Even if i couldnt afford one, or didnt manage to get one myself i would be super happy for those that did.

And lets not forget Bandai might have to make this Japan Exclusive for licensing reasons in the US, Revell FM etc.. Im in England, UK and to me all these Bandai Model Kits are "Japan Exclusives", (more recently Japan & USA.) and might as well be limited quantity as i dont know for sure how long i can get them from Japan or for how much, as im not paying silly prices, so to me this is kinda normal.

I do Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeealy hope i can get one thou :D
