Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build NEW VIDEO JACKET pg 27!!!

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

I'll look for the metallux the next time I'm there. I was keeping it all in the plaskolite family, but I don't see any reason why I couldn't branch out a bit.

Already on the same wavelength as you regarding the gray material. This was a. Quick test with latex and toule. It was ok, but i think the urethane casting would be far stronger and more durable. Im now thinking about how I could take it one step better and improve on the original design.

Gary

Gary, that looks awesome!

For the gray material, can't you just brush urethane into the mold and back it with a fabric material like the red material, either nylon, milliskin, or ...?

Also, I went to Lowes and they actually had two brands of lenses (or "troffers" as they were labeled): the Plastikote sample you started with that had the elongated diamond shapes and a Metallux brand. The Metallux one had cells that were almost perfectly square like the new sample you have. Check it out if you have a chance and see if it's the same as the new sample you got from Plastikote. The cells in the Metallux brand troffer may have more depth than the new sample you recieved, or maybe not. Could be worth checking...

I dare somebody to say something about Gary's samples so far.

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

I find it amusing that the thread only gains interest after a Gary post. On top of that, I think I remember reading a few weeks ago that not only is Gary not a bttf sicko (like so many of us) but he is just doing this project to see if he can do it. Ha!

P.s. is there a word for us bttf crazies? (I.e. Star Trek fans are Trekkies)

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

Oh, I'm MOST DEFINITELY a BTTF "sicko". I'm just from a generation back and don't get nearly as excited about these things as I used to. Case in point... a little thing I built about 6 or 7 years ago.

While I'm not planning to build a jacket and that still hasn't changed - I'm curious to see if my ideas on how to build a BETTER jacket have merit. I'm not looking to copy the original prop as made in 1989. I want to see if it's possible to use MODERN materials and techniques to improve on those original designs (just like I try to do with my replica time machine).

If people here can use those techniques for their own efforts and final projects then I've done exactly what I wanted to do.... help.

Mid last week I did a "walk for a cure" thing and everyone that signed up got a collapsible cloth lamp - it was an impressive site.

The mechanism that make the lamp fold and expand is simply using a cord stitched in helix, yet it works a treat. I wonder if the same technique could be used for the bellows on the sleeves?
