Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

Mr. Fusion, you answered another question I had, since I have debated whether:

A) the OUTER bellows ring should be the same diameter as the sleeve of a jacket that fits me, meaning the inner bellows rings encroach a bit into the interior of the sleeve, but not so much as to be tight or make close contact with your arm,
OR
B) the INNER bellows should be the same diameter as a sleeve that fits me, meaning the outer bellows will stick out a bit beyond what a normal sleeve would.
If I'm hearing you correctly, you're going with option A, right? I think this is correct as well, and it just means that whatever jacket pattern is used to base the bellows measurements off of (diameters of outer/inner rings) has enough extra room in the sleeves to accomodate the inner bellows encroachment into the interior of the sleeve towards the arm. In other words, you wouldn't want to base your sleeve pattern and bellows measurements off of a fitted jacket with little space around the arms.

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

I made a template of the size of the ring showing inner, outer and the slack between my arm and the bellow. I'll post it up in a bit and show ya. A picture speaks a thousand words ;)

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

here we are, the pic showing the size. we on the same page now Spyhunterk2? lol

A little note on the cuff pieces, i think making a mould from scratch would be far easier than trying to copy one of those chair things. firstly you would have to cut them down the middle to get them to the right thickness. Then fill them to add some structure to them due to there flimsiness. And to top it off, you would have to contend with the thing not being long enough so you will have joins in the final cast. All this just adds up to one big ball-ache.
My idea is far less work and will be perfect with the right length.
plastic block 50 inches long, router, rounded flat bit and a 5/8s bull nose. few rulers and steady hands. bam
be able to churn them out till the cows come home.
this may even be done before the bellows.

Sounds good. I know what you mean about the chair bellows. I didn't realize how flimsy they were until I studied one on a chair in an Office Max yesterday.

Yes I would go with A on this one.

Any pics of your new jacket Jedifyfe, or are you only going to post pictures when it's fully finished?

I haven't had time to work on it. So no progress. I am finishing another pair of MAG's...my 3rd pair for myself. :wacko

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

Right I have everything planned to how I will make this jacket. I know what to do and where to get all the stuff required. Just one little thing is stoping me. The inner lining. I know it is a synthetic blend fabric dyed in different stages with a black over lay. But it's those dam wrinkles. I can't get them to hold in fabric. Any ideas guys??

Maybe sort of paint on some fabric glue to parts that are wrinkled and repeat until you've covered the whole inside.

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

Hmmm. Not sure what you mean? You mean hold the wrinkles, once created, with the glue?

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

Sorry, I haven't gotten around to tackling the lining yet.

I received the sample of the 1/8" rubber non-slip mat material that has the correct jacket texture pattern. I think the scale MAY be a bit too big. Here is the sample on top of the same texture pattern in a smaller (way too-small) scale (from a plastic chair back):

We may need something in-between these two scales, though I'm not 100% sure. The tiny size of the sample I received does make the grain size seem larger than it would if the sample would have been larger. I'm going to go ahead and order a yard of the rubber material and see how a larger piece looks. In the meantime, I'll see if I can snag something in this pattern at a smaller scale.

When it comes to embossed rubber mat, I think the sample I received is the smallest scale available of this texture pattern (still don't know its official name), so now I'm back to searching for textured plastics with this pattern..

If the scale of the rubber mat does look fine after getting a larger piece, it will still need to be molded. Even though it's only 1/8", it's still much too thick to use directly as the jacket material.

To be continued? I guess that idea fell through.

No, but no one was seems interested ! I moved forward of two levels in my project ! The next level is make two biger molds than the silicon mold . One for the belt and one other for the sleeves (a little smaller than the belt one) ! All with grey polyurethan .

The mold bellow is not finished, because i want something perfect !

Or he got busy with this thing called "life". You really are impatient.

I don't need your input. I was just wondering what happened because it's been a month with not even a word. You really jump to conclusions.
