Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build NEW VIDEO JACKET pg 27!!!

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

That looks good, however, does the red really over lay black?

I watched my BD of BTTF2 the other day and it seems when he is in full sun, there no sign of the black, so I am wondering if it is more shadowing then an actual surface finish.

Thoughts?
After looking at the High-res pictures of the screenused one I say it does have black in between the red bumps. But how that was achieved is gonna take some tests.

I still think that laying the red in, and wiping the excess off with a squeegee to get red out of the "black channels" would be where to start. Then after it dries lay your black over all of it. I would try it it if I had some time.
This is what im gonna try next, but i will try with a dried peice of black latex first. Im thinking that it might get the same effect as Matt munson got when his first mermaid test went bad : Urethane Scales Fabric Test - Mermaid Tail Fabric - YouTube

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

I'm sorry if I missed this, but what base jacket did you use?

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

Ok, just curious about a possibility.

Could you:

1. Take a light panel
2. Take a thin rubber piece of material in the correct color
3. Lay the light panel in a vacu-form machine
4. Heat the rubber to make it pliable
5. Quickly lay the heated rubber on the panel and vacu-form it. Allowing it to quickly cool should permanently hold that shape

Just a thought

Thanks..found it. Does the inner collar get replaced?

It's not a bad thought. If we're trying to achieve just one color it could work. We are trying to get that two-tone material.

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

The reason I ask about the collar is because in the picture on Wal Marts website it's a light grey.

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

Is it even all that necessary to go with the squall jacket? U2Fan did an amazing scratchbuild of the jacket without using a base jacket.

I'm currently cutting out with paper patterns laid over my red material.

I thought he used B&MJ jacket for his conversions.

I thought he used B&MJ jacket for his conversions.

I think he did that at first and then went full rubber (that's what she said? :confused)

While he did add a lining later, the jacket just used the red material for the torso and rubber sleeves with bellows attached directly to the red.

That's what i'm doing right now.

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

this is what i found guys, so far.

Vulcanized Rubber supply. can be colored with acrylic or gouache. cheap
VULCANISED RUBBER LATEX - vulcanised rubber latex*-*GreatArt - Art Supplies - UK's largest range of discount art materials

Diffuser panels for red bumps/diamonds. Big 600mm x 1200mm sheet. £47
Light Diffuser Sheets

Texture for the sleeves, will need slightly sand blasting to get that matt look.

The bellows...well your just have to make the moulds from scratch. maybe lathe some up out of alu. take a casting and reverse it. remember its 6 folds.

the cuffs and base of the jacket - im making moulds again for these. Shouldnt be to hard. milling machine, box core bit and a flat. alternate the sequence.

Inner lining...hmm tricky still. any thoughts? im thinking synthetic stretchy stuff. iron permanent creases into it. Dip dye in sections to get rainbow effect. lay flat and apply black rubber spray paint. although this is just an idea. could be pissin in the wind with this one. lol

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

Any art paint shop. The 2 types of paint I listed above. Acrylic or gouach.

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

Alrighty... Finally pulled my old diffuser panel from storage and got this test made up. This was Reoflex 60 tinted with SoStrong tints and backed with a sheet of cotton fabric.

Final verdict - it worked, but I think my diffuser sheet is not correct. The pattern is not quite what I think it should be.

This is one coat of red (actually a bit of red+yellow and white tint for a tad of opacity), then followed by one coat of black and the cloth backing. You can also see a bit of the edges where I had less red and more black.

Still not convinced it's the proper construction technique. I may do a small test with a wash of black/grey paint just to see what happens.

on the plus side - this was so easy I think anyone here could do this for their own jackets.
