Awesome. Now I have a template for the black pocket pieces. Thanks.

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

Hmm. I think I need some advice.

I'm attempting to build this jacket from materials that are more readily available for my first go. But I have a choice for the red material.

One is a non-slip mat similar to the one Brad used but without the double line on the horizontal. The second is a foam yoga mat with a solid pattern much closer to the screen-used jacket but still not perfect.

Using the non-slip mat would require another material to back but the yoga mat would only need the trim and collar glued on so thickness would be about the same in both cases.

Which one would be best?

For me Looks goes before functionality so if it looks better then use that.

Edit: Been doing some testing with acrylic paint mixed into the latex and testing my version of the Sleeve texture.

There's a company in the uk that does panels 600mm x1200 of this. Perfect size for no joins in the back of the jacket :)

Could you post pictures of both?

This is Jedifyfe's build thread? He has only posted 30 times and you have 47 posts :lol I thought you had your own thread that you asked Brad to stop posting in? :lol

He was basically, no offence Brad, hijacking my thread by distracting attention from my jacket to his. I just post questions and respond to conversation. Stop misjudging what's going on.

It's all good :lol
I am just playing with ya :lol

Stop hijacking my thread!!! :lol

I don't mind all of this as long as it is productive and ends in a better result.

Brad gets really mad about hijackers don't let him fool you.If I were you I'd run lols

Ok, my latex coloring test is finished for now.
The test piece was made thin and on one part of it i poured black latex over the red. The result was somewhat satisfying.
Gonna do a new test with a thin layer of red latex and when that layer is poured im gonna place and press a piece of dried Black latex over it.

I also made a test to see if i was able to do the sleeve texture in latex. This is a good substitute until i find something better. :

That looks good, however, does the red really over lay black?

I watched my BD of BTTF2 the other day and it seems when he is in full sun, there no sign of the black, so I am wondering if it is more shadowing then an actual surface finish.

Thoughts?

Looking back over some pictures I can see both possibilities. In some there is no denying black. In others the black is so subtle it could be written off as dirt or the red just wearing to reveal black underneath.

I still think that laying the red in, and wiping the excess off with a squeegee to get red out of the "black channels" would be where to start. Then after it dries lay your black over all of it. I would try it it if I had some time.
