Back to the Future Guitars

I get that, but your posts here have turned the last three pages of this thread into a duplicate of your other thread. So now this one seems to have just become your build thread about that same guitar.

I edited my post. We're all good.

Got a guitar in the works right no. Gonna be donew ithin a month. Hopefully it's gonna be as accurate as I can get it out of the box, I gave a pretty extensive list to the maker, using info from this thread and checking ther bluray.

I think the cream binding is in the same style as this Memphis:

The black detail is hard to see in pics online but you can make it out on the bluray. Unfortuntely I can't capture a shot due to the copy protection, but it's there.

I also noticed the neck is darker than the body. I took a quick phone pic of the TV Check this out:

Those attachments don't work.

booshman, what was on your list to fix? Other than the varitone switch placement. If i were to do it all over again, I would request for the knobs to be moved to their correct places. When i ordered I figured the language barrier would be too much for me to describe it well enough. And I would also see if i could have gotten a gold input jack and not have the cream binding in the cutout holes. And watch out as the fittings on the guitar for the volume and tone knobs are smaller in diameter than real Gibson knobs so they kinda loosely spin on it. I'm look for a picture of the knobs either all the way at 0 or 10 just to get them in a neutral position for me to glue them down.

Everything that has been listed in this thread,I have asked for. Plus the binding detail that I believe to be accurate from looking at the bluray. I asked for different colour tuners too, as I don't believe the originals were green. I have requested a B70 trem and accurate scratch plate bracket, both of which they have said they can do. If they do everything I have asked of them the only difference to the original should be the tremelo, but I'm not shelling out for a proper B7. Of course the thing won't play like the real thing, but I got a "Les Paul" from the guy last year and it's a pretty nice guitar. Of all the things I asked for that one I had no surprises when it arrived, so fingers crossed for this one.

3 questions. Was the B70 any extra money? Did you source a gold varitone plate? And have you ordered the custom pickguard from the ebay seller I collaborated with? Feel free to post as many pictures as you want once you get them.

We should just ask for the aliexress vendor to have their guitar totally remodeled with our specs and sell it as a McFly Custom or something similar. Or just have a separate guitar listed. That way people can buy it pretty much already done without contacting the seller with specific details to change.

Everything is coming from the same seller. I haven't got a breakdown of the individual pricing, but this is costing me a fair bit more than the LP I got.

I'll be sure to post pics when is done.

As for the listing, I'm in mainland China so I can't buy from Aliexpress. Its possible the seller in using has a store there though.

Oh ok. I thought you ordered from ali. Actually being in Chine probably helps with communication. And it won't take almost a month and a half to get the guitar like it did for mine.

Oh and I looked at my guitar to see if the neck was darker than the body. It is darker. I think its because the neck is a different kind of wood. The grain on it looks different than the body.

I'll have to wait a month for production. One is made it should arrive within a few days!

Cool. Can't wait to see it. Oh and I just odered some regular cream colored tuner knobs from ali for 6 bucks. The green jade ones on my guitar just pop right off, so replacing them will be a sintch. And I almost forgot. What did you do about the 12th fret being solid? Did you order it custom made or just plan to use fret inlay stickers like I did?

The 12th fret will be solid, no sticker.

I asked for different colour tuners too, as I don't believe the originals were green.

The Kluson keystone tuners looked pale green to me. Also the Epiphone re-issue of the ES-345 came with green Kluson tuners. What color do you think is more accurate?

The ones in the movie look brown, which is a symptom of their age, not how they would have looked new. Like this:

I prefer the look of cream over green and looking at these pictures of browned tuners I think that they were crea/ pearl to begin with .

It's most likely a Fender Bassman with 4 12" speakers, but it could possibly be a Fender DeVille...

The amp is clearly meant to be a late 50's 4x10 Fender Bassman but it has corner protectors and there's no badge on the front. What's more it dosen't look like there's any holes from where a badge was removed. It could be home made, or it could be a vintage bassman that was re-covered.

Note that modern re-issues of the bassman have three screws along the bottom, while original cabinets (like the one in the movie) have two.

booshman, did you request gold, or silver pickups, stoptail bolts, and pickguard bracket, for your guitar? I chose gold so I could age them myself to be more authentic. I'm even going to dull the finish so the guitar doesn't look so new.

I went for gold. With the quality of the covers I don't think it will need to be played for very long to start getting that tarnished look.

I finally got some pics of my guitar. There are a few issues that need sorting out, but im working witht the seller to get it it even more accurate. The main pitfall has been that he added binding to the f-holes. As I specifically requested not to have this, the seller is redoing the body, which has allowed me to give him some extra changes to get it even closer.

I've asked for the body to show less grain so that the finish is a more comsistent overall red colour like in the movie. The binding will be a more cream colour. You can see against the white of the scratch plate that it's not white, but it could do with being a bit yellower. The silver nobs an will be gold and the tuning pegs will be cream. I've asked for all of the gold screw that should be black be corrected. And the tremelo will be changed to a proper B70 and not the B700 that's on this one with the curved sides.

Overall the guy has done a good job and been very accomodating to get me what I want. I'll update once I have any news.

That looks fantastic. I sill have to get my stoptail studs and pickguard installed. I wanted to get some cream tuning pegs but they seem to be impossible to find at a good price, so I ordered a cream colored paint marker instead. I would say other than the woodgrain that our guitars look pretty much the same. I sanded my finish though to get a more aged look as in the movie it didn't look all that glossy.

Also I noticed that your pickguard has a screw securing the bracket when there shouldn't be. And the input jack should be gold. That could be another thing to bring up to your seller. And if hes is redoing the whole body he could put the volume and tuning knobs in the right places. These replicas always seem to have them placed wrong.
