Avengers Movie SPOILER Thread

Seems right on the money. At several times during the movie, the heroes questioned Loki's motivation. He just didn't have his heart into what they saw was the purpose of the invasion. Coulson saw it, Stark saw it... can't remember if Black Widow sensed it too, Banner certainly did, if maybe only on a feral level.

There was always just that overall sensation that he truly was just there for the mayhem rather than the end result and no matter how it turned out he would be the winner, because he was there for the mayhem. Having the other "win options" with putting him back in Asgard with access to the gauntlet and still working with Thanos - explaning HIS little smirk at the end - is just added bonus to that win/win scenario he's set up for himself.

I'm glad they didn't have cap pick up Thors hammer. There was already so much going on in the movie, and the last thing they need is them discussing why cap can pick it up. On top of that, it takes away from Thor.

I'm still surprised that they made it a point to show that Thors lightning can super power Starks reactor and that Thors hammer striking Caps Vibranium shield cann create that shockwave and not have them use it. Most movies always throw something like that out there and as soon as the scene is past, you're thinking "Welp, I guess I know what they're gonna be doing in the big climax of the film" but it never happened.

I kinda like it.

they did that with tonys armor and the lightning somewhere in the cartoon or the comic, i just cant recall where exactly it was

They might have intentionally avoided it here because it had already been done in IM2 with the repulsor feedback. Moreso in that case, because not only did they use it, that was how they finally defeated the bad guy.

Saw the movie last night with friends...wasn't really that impressed. I think they tried to do too much with too many characters in too short of time. I was most disappointed with the Hulk though - seems like Hollywood just can't get that right...

Really? I thought Hulk was awesome. They did an awesome job with him. He definitely hit close to home compared to the Ultimates Hulk from what I remember.

I don't know of any REAL Hulk fans who were disappointed with the Hulk in this. That was EXACTLY how the Hulk should have been done.

Exactly, this was the best incarnation of Hulk I've ever seen done. I loved the Norton Hulk but they perfected him in the Avengers.

I mean more so that since cap was so underutilized in this movie and really made out to be the weakest character. It would have been an awesome visual to see. I mean the one person who has a shield gets shot when two other characters in the midst of battle two human characters standing in the middle of the battle come through unharmed. It just would have added something special to the movie is really all I am saying.

He still doesn't talk enough. He's not mute. And he only makes brief appearances. They are still using the TV show as a model.

When they use the comic and have NO Banner at all then it will be perfect.

I don't feel that Cap was underutilized or that he was portrayed as the weakest member at all. He went toe-to-toe with Thor (and withstood a blow from Mjolnir!), as well as showing a fantastic tactical mind in the battle of New York. He really stepped into the leadership role and helped bring the Avengers together as a team, taking them from being a group of powerful individuals to actually functioning as a team.

Agreed, the whole tone kinda shifted to Cap when Stark relented as the battle was starting and knew Captain America was the man to make the call.

There's a lot going on in this movie and I think they juggled all the characters - including the stars and their egos pretty well. I think it's common acceptance Iron Man is the biggest name here because his movies have done so well, also consider that Downey is pretty formidable actor and movie star (although, I'll give ya until Iron Man his career was a bit on the back slide).

Evans is a star on the rise, he'd had moderate success and had the potential to be somebody with or without Captain America. Thor made Hemsworth. Scarlett Johansson might be the biggest star of the bunch. Sam Jackson will do just about any movie. And Renner is a late bloomer actor that's on the rise.

Wait, are you talking about the film or cartoon. If your talking about the film, well...that's just crazy talk then.

Did you guys watch the original Hulk with Bixby and Ferrigno? There were some rather hulking mistakes that I couldn't belive that they made.

1) David Bruce Banner - nearly always had some sort of cover - he never went around being called Dr Banner.
2) Dr Banner was widely known as having been killed during his initial experiment (though certainly wasn't)
3) Death of the Incredible Hulk - the Hulk falls from an air plane at the end of the movie...AND DIES. The scene in Avengers was nearly a copy of that but he was fine???
4) In the Avengers, the very FIRST time that we see the Hulk, he is out of control chasing Black Widow (one of the good guys mind you), trying to kill her because she was what...there???
5) Additionally, he's destroying everything in his path as he chases her. Then AMAZINGLY when the aliens attack, Banner is suddenly confident in himself (about what he is - which David Banner never was) and has the power to turn himself into the Hulk (at will again, which Banner could NEVER do).
6) Lastly, the Hulk was all of a sudden a team player, and....COULD CONTROL HIMSELF???

:facepalm

...seriously...I could go on...

They're basing the Avengers on the comic (the original source material). Not the show.

Well...that might explain a few things...

I was never into comics much...that being said, I suppose that the mass population who LOVED the Avengers were big into comics. So I'm glad to know that it was done right at least from a certain perspective. I can't claim complete ignorance in know that the characters were from the comics, it's a Marvel movie after all!
