What type of obsidian is the other arrowhead going to be? I'm not sure what would be more accurate to the film, but having worked with a professional flint knapper and bowyer for 3 years, I know that obsidian looks great, but midnight lace obsidian or snowflake obsidian makes for a gorgeous blade.

Either way, this project is pretty amazing. I'm fairly anxious to see the final outcome.

Not sure what type of obsidian he is using, but the movies' arrowhead that had the texture and thinness of obsidian looked to be made out of amber resin, which also is noted in the Field Guide.
If I choose to make it look like amber resin, I may mold the arrowhead and cast it in amber-colored resin.

I can't believe it's been over a year since I last posted on this!:rolleyes

Anyways, I'm finally working fulltime on the Bow, and getting closer to finishing!

Right now, I've finished carving and sanding the main body. I'm now sketching out the areas where I have to carve recesses for the leather straps on the handle area. The base area of the handle will be covered with Rayskin, and a leather pattern with leather straps over that.

Your work on this bow is inspirational!! You have some mighty fine woodworking skills! I do have a request though... I would love to see higher resolution photos of your progress! Do you have a flickr account or something similar? I really want to see the detail Also because I've been mulling around the idea of building a bow myself (but maybe not full-scale) and its always nice to see what others have done!

I'm finished carving and sanding and sanding and sanding, etc....:wacko

I just need to paint the spires or leaves blue, leather wrap the handle and put a string on it and it should be done!thumbsup
