Avatar AMP Suit Maquette

The only thing that bugs me about the maquette is the inaccurate addition of the sling. Do you think one could get rid of it and the AMP hand and attachment on the leg would still hold the gun?

Barbatus,

Thanks for the opinion but I really don't understand the " inaccurate addition of the sling " or why I'd want to get rid of the AMP hand or attachment on the leg? The gun can hang on its own with the just the sling but the attachment is just a brass pin on the gun that holds it in place and helps support it to make an overall better look to the maquette. I'm rather pleased with the maquette and my only opinion was there should have instead been some metal parts where they used resin pieces. I think the eyes could have been improved on the Quaritch figure and overall paint job to be more "lifelike" since I have seen this done to smaller anime characters. These changes in my opinion wouldn't have cut alot into their already inflated profit margin. I'm going to leave it as is since I want to keep it as an "original collectible".
I also posted a pic of the full size one displayed at the comic con.....I'm sure if I tried real hard I could nic pick this maquette to death but why bother?.....its not going to change anything. Again thanks for the opinion and maybe you could elaborate more of what you meant since I'm now curious.

Hi TymerDC,

maybe it's due to english not being my mother tongue that many times I post something on the RPF someone feels offended and I have no clue for what reasons :rolleyes

The only thing that I personally don't like about this Maquette is the sling since it has zero screentime (can't see where that's nitpicking). And since I'm still considering trying to get a SS AMP I wanted to ask if you (as an owner of the Maquette) think that the attachment to the leg and the hand would be enough to hold the gun in place without the sling.

I hope that clarifies my question.

Barbatus,

I wasn't at all offended and I'm sorry you came to that conclusion. Now that I understand the question I can answer.....I feel that no the gun will not support itself adequately by the attachment to the leg alone. The hand is just loosely wrapped around the handle of the gun and is not helping to support its weight. But since the hand does detach and held on by a magnet I'm sure a talented modeler could make a replacement hand that does support the gun without the sling. Doing this won't affect the maquette's originality since it won't alter the maquette physically and the old hand can be put back on to retain its original look in case its resold. I went back and looked thru the whole movie and I see what your talking about...the sling has no screen time in the movie. The maquette is based off the original full size AMP Suit you see displayed at the Comic Con and my guess is why they deleted it from the film is for cinematic reasons. It just didn't work for the AMP suits running around with a gun handing from them. I'm also guessing the maquette was prototyped and approved long before the movie was released and changes weren't an option. I've seen this happen before to other collectible pieces.
I say if you want the maquette and can afford it then go for it.....paying on their flex pay option didn't hurt as bad but it took almost a year for me to pay it off. There's only 13 left and I honestly don't see anyone else doing one better or cheaper so if you really want one I'd buy one before they disappear and will only get more expensive when they are no longer available. I'm not about to spend this kinda money again and it was a one time deal because I liked it so much. There are other models I'd like to have but they are even more expensive and frankly I just can't afford them. The main pleasure I get from owning this maquette is its low number production, it looks so cool in my home and my guests just love it.
