Attaching Comm Badges in the Movies

I've got this stunt piece from Nemesis (Name "Paul" in the pants & coat along with the note "Stair Fall")

Picard (or should I say stunt double Paul Sklar) spends some time wrassling with Shinzon and falling down stairs when he's on the Scimitar, so I'm guessing it's his outfit:

The undershirt has the name "Steve Kelso" on the label, who also did stunts for Picard. According to Memory Alpha, he doubled for Picard during all the mayhem on the Bridge.

Here's my question. The jacket has the triangle-shaped Velcro patch for the Comm badge, but it's also got a bunch of loose white thread around it:

Is this a precaution because of the stunt work, or were they all attached with Velcro AND needle & thread?

Any ideas?

Steve

There's no comm badge with the piece, but I'm guessing that it's probably rubber.

Who wants to grapple and tumble with a Remen (or a clone for that mater) wearing a pointy piece of metal on your chest?!?
