Assassin's Creed 2 Full Build WIP (VERY pic heavy)

Hey guys, long time no see lol... Well, I had a bunch of other stuff on my plate lately so I haven't had a chance to really work on this for a while but Im jumping back on it, hoping to finish before FanExpo up in Toronto this year...

So next projects are the cloth bits... problem: no sewing machine yet... working on it but for now, hand sewing is gonna be my go to...

So next step: the black under shirt with the white slashed sleeves...

So to look at the idea I am going for I have this:

larp-landsnecht-shirt-[5]-1098-p.jpg

The slashes will be thinner but you get the idea... here's the thing: I'm not a seamstress... I don't know how to make a good shirt and I'm a plus sized guy so its also not easy for me to find a simple pattern...

So I'm thinking about buying a plain black dress shirt (Walmart?) and then modifying the crap out of it... I'm gonna open the seams on the sleeves, cut them off and then add the slashes and add a white material to the slashes then reattach them, cut off the cuffs and make custom long cuffs with a black lace end, cut off the collar and customize one with lacing up the front more like the first pic above...

Tell me your thoughts

Thanks again! Hope to get to work on the shirt this week and then start laying out the pieces for the skirting... im probably going to keep the doublet/vest for last so i can get it done nicely on a sewing machine... also, I'm debating... do I do the hard plates on the front and back or do I just do a nice doublet?

So I think the shirt may be on hold for a little bit... sadly I'm a big guy and the 3 walmarts I went to in my area have my size in every color EXCEPT black... urg...

So I think I'm going to try my hand (lol) at glove making... In the ref images I have seen, he is wearing the bracer on one arm but always a long cuffed leather glove on the other hand. So I found a site with some good info on glove making (and really a ton of other old period garment info) that I am going to try to follow along with and make my own glove. here is the link: Recreating 16th and 17th Century Clothing: The Renaissance Tailor

Again, I am trying to keep the pre-made stuff to an absolute minimum as I want to see what was involved in making such an outfit...

Hope it turns out, let me know your thoughts and if there are any other good tutorials out there!

I don't know if you're still interested in the doublet pattern, but I drafted my own using this guide:

The Tudor Costume Page

It was a very nice guide and I think it came out very well. You take a lot of measurements of yourself so you're able to have it fit exactly. :D

Your costume is looking great so far, keep up the good work!

...and yeah, you will DEFINITELY need a sewing machine. Sewing by hand will take you ages. You'll never get done :p

Wait, I take that back, my bad. I used this pattern:

http://www.renaissancetailor.com/demos_patterndraft.htm

This is an excellent guide.

Thanks for the links! I'm on hold for the doublet right now till I get the sewing machine... I'm working on the leather glove for the right hand... Making it by hand too lol... 10 patterns and a ton of cloth tests later, I am finally sewing up the leather on this week...

Hope to have pics soon for you guys

Hey guys and gals,

So I'm still actively working on this project but at a slow pace...

I'm currently working on the leather glove for the right hand... That's right, I'm making the glove by hand! Pun DEFINITELY intended!

So I have to say to all and any glove makers across the centuries, you are amazing and patient... Holy cow what a pain in the arse.

I started with a basic how-to online about making a glove pattern from the 16 to 17 century and then I made a cloth glove to test fit... Not even close... So in total, I made 10 patterns with major and minor changes until the cloth test gloves finally felt right...

So now I am finally on to leather... I lucked out on some free thin leather from a friend at work so I got the material for nothing but the colour isn't exactly what I hoped: it's a very light tan colour and I really wanted to go black or very dark brown so I will have to dye it eventually but right now I'm just happy that it is getting done...

In the following pics, you'll see the progress from a few days ago... You'll notice the middle finger is kind of bulbous. The ring finger was too but I fixed it and now the middle finger has been fixed too... Apparently I over estimated the seem allowance by a little bit lol

Hope you like it so far and I will be pushing hard on this over the next few days to get the glove done asap.

So currently working on attaching the thumb... Another pain in the butt... Curved sewing on leather due to lack of stretch makes it pretty tough... Should have some more pics later

Just wanted to say, this thread is awesome. Cant wait to see the finished product. You are doing the exact version of Ezios costume that I want to do. Keep up the good work!!!

Thanks! Got the main part of the glove finished, will get picks up when I get home later... Now I gotta work on the cuff that is rolled over to hide the second wrist blade...

Hey all, the main part of the glove is complete!

Just need to get started on the cuff this week... Im hoping to get it all done by the weekend but you all know my level of reliability when it comes to this timeframe lol

So here are some pics of the glove itself:

Hope you like!

Sorry about some of them being a bit blurry lol

Thx Ronin, look up on my last post, see the pair of pliers with the orange handles? I am using heavy duty coat makers thread and a regular sewing needle... I am using the pliers to push and pull the needle through by hand lol... It's time consuming but I feel my way through it and even if I had a machine, there is no way I could get the precision so close to the edges of the finger seams... So Ya, thread and needle and pliers to get it through the leather!

Also got some good news: went to Walmart this weekend and they finally had a black dress shirt in my size!

Hey guys and gals,

A bit of progress on the glove, got the cuff sewn up and grommets in for the lacing and got ready to sew it onto the glove and thought "I need to dye it before I add the cuff..."

So I made some vinagaroon (a traditional dye made of vinegar and steel wool that dyes veg-tan leather a jet-black in a split second) a while back but the leather I used for the glove was not veg-tan... It was actually from the back of my friends couch after it got torn up by a pet lol... So I had to go back to commercial dye. Got some midnight-black dye/sealer from hobby lobby and had a fun time dying the couch leather (which is already sealed) so I had to layer it a bit.

So got it dyed black and starting to sew the cuff onto the glove. Here's a few progress pics and dying the rest of the leather belts and straps is next...

Hope you like it so far!

Hey guys and gals,

Got the glove pretty much done... Just have to add a tiny piece of leather where the glove and cuff meet as there is a gap to let the blade come out but all in all, I'm happy!

Hope you like it!

Here it is alone on the desk showing the cuff lacing...

And the back

Here you can see the gap in the cuff... The reason is simple, it's where the blade will come through the sleeve and pop out

Here it is on hand

Hope you all like it... I'm starting the leather straps and belts

Hope to have more soon
