Arkham Origins/City/Asylum costume build. UPDATE Cowl pull photos!

Hey everyone.

Its been an odd year and I haven't done much in the way or making things but a few people asked if I was doing the new Arkham cowl and although I resisted at first, I eventually gave in.

Took me a while to like the design (it sat there for weeks) and actually want to sculpt it but the last couple of weeks have seen things come together nicely.

EDIT: After seeing the new spots for the game and my love for the older ones, I'm making this a full costume build thread. I don't own an actual costume of my own and this will be my first full suit.

I'll be using the Origins cowl (occasionally swapping for my City cowl), City gauntlets and belt, Asylum boot/shin armor and I haven't decided on the body yet, either subdye or Origins armor pieces. I'll make the body armor last as I'm still trimming down to costume weight lol

I'll be molding this tomorrow but for now, here are pics of the sculpture. This was done in monster clay. Hope ya'll like it :)

:cheers

Beautiful, where did you pick up those sculpting skills?

Thanks guys, molding this beast today. More pics later!

Re: Arkham Origins cowl sculpture. Sealed for molding, pic heavy! UPDATE: Silicone do

Small update:

The silicone is done! Just had a small thin patch on the one ear which will slow down making the jacket a bit but its raining anyway right now.

Definitely going to leave myself enough time to do a matrix mold next time, brush ups are time consuming.

Hey buddy this is really really nice! so clean !, ive been wanting to do a sculpt on a batman cowl for a while now ! Could you say what clay you use ? Im in the Uk and i have no idea what clay is best to get, or where to get it from, any pointers would be much appreciated !

Re: Arkham Origins cowl sculpture. Sealed for molding, pic heavy! UPDATE: Silicone do

Thanks Lew.

I used to use Chavant for props/armor but once I tried Monster Clay, I couldn't stop using it. Its amazing stuff. That said, everyone is different. Where are you location wise? You may be close to a supplier so you could save on getting clay shipped to you.
Mouldlife.net have WED, all Chavant NSP grades and Monster Clay. If you can afford it, I'd get some of each to try, you may like a different clay to me. It's really all preference but so far, Monster Clay has worked for everything I do from prop stuff to prosthetic sculpture.

Cheers for that buddy ! not too far from you my man, Im in Chesterfield, Derbyshire ! i will give that a shot ! the only thing ive worked with before is just basic grey ceramics clay at college, i really want to get hold of some decent sculptiing clay for props ! thanks again my friend ! good luck with your pulls !

Happy to help bro :)

You want to do props, Monster Clay, NSP meduim/hard is a good start. Water clay (WED in particular) can be used for large armor parts too, Steve Wang does amazing things with it.

Small update for those interested:

Back part of the jacket is done, tomorrow I'll do the front left and right. Here are some pics of the process so far.

Water based clay wall is built over the silicone brush up.

Then I backed it with plaster bandage for support.

Then I cleaned up the wall and added keys. A couple of layers of crystal clear and a final dusting of baby powder and it was on to the gel coat!

Re: Arkham Origins/City/Asylum costume build. UPDATE Cowl molded

Hey everyone, I've edited the first post as I've decided to make this a full suit build thread.

Here are some photo updates of todays progress. The mold itself is all done, I don't have photos yet as its all looking very messy until its cured over night and trimmed tomorrow but here are some pics from earlier.

Divider wall for the front

And after 30 minutes or so, I cleaned the all off and released the last segment (which is currently curing)

And we have the first pull! Came out a little too thick in places so I know what to change next time. This one is currently on eBay.

But here are the pics, nne of me in it yet as I trimmed it up quickly before work. I'll run a thinner one when I get home. But I'm pretty happy with it. Hope you all like :)

Thanks Lew. I cast it in 40 shore urethane. The finish comes from the spray I used on the sculpture. That transfers to the silicone mold and in turn, to the rubber casting.
