Are there young male action heroes in 2024?

I don't think a physique is a necessity to be considered an action hero. I would consider Clint Eastwood, Bruce Willis, Mel Gibson, and even Charles Bronson as action heroes, but their physique doesn't necessarily jump to mind. For me, an action star was someone you'd go see the movie for just because they were in it, it was a must see movie for that alone. There are none of those today, aside from maybe Tom Cruise. The days of the movie star in general is disappearing for a multitude of reasons, I think.

Charles Bronson was a “big dude” in his prime…

^^
Was working in the mines of Pennsylvania while very young, removing stumps between mines (heavy, dangerous work). Enlisted, in 1943, in the Air Force and was a B-29 Arial Gunner. Was severely wounded (but still manned his station) and received a purple heart:cool::cool::cool::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

Exactly. He's actually more realistic of what a soldier or specops guy would look like. They say most of the huge guys can't make it because of hauling all the weight around (true).

Yep.

The modern bodybuilder shape is all about image. When you see examples of real high-functioning bodies (athletes, soldiers, etc) they don't look like that. Their muscles are smaller. They are only moderately 'chiseled' depending on the sport.

Olympic powerlifters have as much excuse to look like bodyuilders as anybody, and their muscles still aren't THAT big. They are surprisingly chubby-looking too.

Roman gladiators weren't lean. They liked to have a layer of body fat on their frame because it made shallow cuts & scrapes less damaging. They weren't anywhere near 'fat' by modern standards. But the no-fat chiseled look was considered a liability.

That society had no processed food and they saw overworked starving slaves every day. The "ripped" look would have been nothing glamorous in their eyes.

To be annoyingly pedantic, they did have processed food ;)

They need to bring back the classic “in-shape / out-of-shape” action stars of the 1950’s—like Robert Mitchum.

These were REAL men who never saw the inside of a gym, smoked unfiltered Camels, had terrible diets, pulled their pants up to their armpits to hide their guts, and had the muscular physique of a potato.

Watching Furiousa, I was in the theater thinking “So when does Doctor dementious find time to work out in the post apocolypse?… where resources aren’t great?… he’s getting a lot of protein and def needs to be lifting 5-6 days a week…”

Didn’t look like he was that active for such a jacked post-apocalyptic physique… wakes up and just does a lot of squats and pushups before driving his motorcycle chariot?

He goes to the same invisible gym that the Humungus did in 'Road Warrior'.

It's also where Optimus Prime's trailer disappeared to in the old cartoon show.

In seriousness, they also looked beat to hell at an early age. Like, you look at old movies and TV shows, and you'll see some guy who just looks indiscriminately late-middle-aged, only to learn that he's, like, 36 or something. It's insane.

Remember kids: smoking is BAD for you. No joke.

Perfect. Beat me to it, but then added the cherry on top with Prime's trailer.

Historians have also said that the Spartans probably looked like the modern MMA fighters in terms of size/shape.

I could buy that.

Building really huge muscles gets into diminishing returns, as far as being useful. A medium-size guy who has been practicing the same motion for years will do it better than a huge bodybuilder trying it for the first time. The body gets more efficient at doing things with practice. Trying to maintain huge muscles takes a lot of work & food and it's heavy.

IIRC Bruce Lee tried bulking up at one point but he decided it wasn't useful. He thought it slowed him down more than it helped. So he quit building and went back to being skinny.

Bruce ended up getting too skinny as it turned out. It's a long story, but his extremely thin (and flushed red) look in his last movie was a sign of serious health trouble. He died before shooting was finished.

Mitchum was a real tough guy...o_Oo_O

Look up Audie Murphy. -A real action star. He was one inch taller than Michael J Fox.
Audie was tiny and underweight when he tried to join up...eventually he got in to the forces and proved himself a Real Man ! No T.R.T. No Roids, just Guts !The blown up fake stars of today would be embarrassed to stand in the same room with him ! Also a great Fast Draw with a SixGun !
