This looks absolutely fantastic. Great work! :thumbsup

Looks the business. Very impressive work with the boots.

I love it! Very creative solutions you've come up with. If you are still considering the metal rings, check into seals for dry suit diving, there might be something there that would work.

Bravo, sir! Well done!

The weathering really makes it pop :)

That clang you heard in the distance was my jaw hitting the floor. I must admit I was unimpressed with the initial stages of the build, but the further you went with it, the more it looked accurate. That's an amazing job you did. I've handled a couple of real suits of this type and I can tell you that this is THE best one-person build I've ever seen!

Great job! Looks fantastic. I like the "weathered" look. Now we know what CAPT Lovell's EMU should have looked like at mission completion!

i must agree with p51 that was a great build i have studied space travel and the suits and that looks so dead on congrats

Re: Apollo A7L Jim Lovell's Moon Suit, Weathered and Ready for Dragon COn 8/12/2013!

Simply amazing work! When are you going to start the full size LM to climb out of?

Re: Apollo A7L Jim Lovell's Moon Suit, Weathered and Ready for Dragon COn 8/12/2013!

Actually, the U.S. Space and Rocket center has a LEM replica, upright Saturn V, a LEM simulator, and a real moon rock among other things and is only about 5 min from my apartment. I'm going to be making a few phone calls after D*Con to arrange a photo shoot.

I should point out that while the suit is ready for Dragon*Con it is far from finished. I still need to make the over visor for the helmet (I'm casting a new one with extra fan) and a camera. After the con I'm also going to upgrade my chest control box with correct indicators, add the OPS activation line, and add the pressure gauges to the arms. David is working on my arm checklist which may or may not be ready for D*Con.

Thanks for the compliments everybody!

Absolutely amazing. Beautiful piece of work.

In my next life I will learn to sew.

Honestly, I suck at sewing. Before this, the most complex thing I sewn was a few mau5 heads. It took 4 tries to get the jumpsuit to a point I liked. You just have to try and not be afraid to fail a few times before you get it right.

that is an amazing build. i would love one of these how much did the whole build cost ?

A lot.

I don't keep track of the exact amount in each project. I allow so much a month to support my hobby, and there were a lot of materials purchased that never were used on the suit. That said, it is at least 4 digits.

Once I build our new 22" x 22" vacuum former I can seriously consider making kits avalible. Hypothetically, kits would include:

-EVA over helmet
-EVA visor with resin lip
-Bubble helmet vacuum form
-bubble helmet fiberglass casting
-chest connection ports
-Connectors for the PLSS pack

Please note I do not have a mold for every solid piece on the suit. Several pieces were made as one offs.

The rubber finger tips and boot soles will be avalible too but not part of the kit due to the labor and material involved. Look for an interest thread some time in 2014.

I'll be there in mid-September for Adult Space Camp, I sure wish you'd swing by so I could see the thing!

Hmm. I wonder who I would need to contact there to work out some kind of show and tell.

A few more pics

First, we have a snoopy cap! It is made of cotton with eva floor mat ears. The mike wire is hose and wire similar to that used on my portal gun.

And finally the flag, which is a 2 x 3 flag (I know the real ones are 3 x 5 but this is much easier to carry). I modified the top to allow the support rod and the side so there is no top rivet. The pole is a modified microphone stand.

NOW I'm ready for Dragon*Con!
