Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device

For all those that are somewhat addicted to the world of Portal from Valve, I'd like to present my first project undertaking which is a replica of the Portal Gun from the game.

It doesn't do much unfortunately, just a show piece really. A blue light shines, but no blue portal opens unfortunately. Hope it's to your liking. So, let the idioms flow!

Nice!
Any plans for the Grav Gun from HL2?

wow! that's awesome. for some reason, a prop of the portal gun never crossed my mind... I think I was too in love with the weighted companion cube <3

Can't say the Gravity Gun really appeals to me as much as the ASHPD, not as clean cut and smooth. Even though mine isn't *that* smooth due to my techniques.

I think if I ever started a job which required a labcoat, it would have an Aperture Science logo on the breast. Or Umbrella Corp.

"This was a triumph.
I'm making a note here:
HUGE SUCCESS.
It's hard to overstate
my satisfaction!"

Whoa, that is a beautiful piece of work, and a great choice.
Where did you get reference pix?

I found a picture through Google which is an artistic representation of the gun in side view (the only decent resolution one). I took a guess at the overall size (500mm) and scaled accordingly to take measurements, made a solid CAD model and constructed from there. A bit of in-game inspections also helped confirm some aspects, such as a the barrel with the windows being oval as opposed to round.

Glad you like it :)

Awesome work! I've always wanted to make myself one of these. Yours is easily the best replica I've seen out there. Great job!

That looks really nice. If you ever want to build something else from a Valve game, get Jed's Half-Life Model Viewer (for things based on Half-Life 1) or the Source SDK (for games based on Half-Life 2). Those programs will let you look at the models used in the game from any angle, any size, in any animation. If you're really serious, you can export models from the games into a 3D program and build your prop right from the source.

Good work. When I saw the thread title, I instantly started singing the song in my head hehe. Thats mad!

*But there's no sense in crying over every mistake
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake
And the science gets done, and you make a neat gun
For the people who are still alive!

This has really given me the inspriation i need to get off my oversized backside and go build my pc...

All I will say is...

"Are you still there?"

Hehe... Great work man.
